I've come across Michael Cline's posts not too long ago and was drawn to his stories of places in and of NYC from a time I remember and can relate to. I was lucky to have been able to chat with him here and there about much of the older venues and places that may not be around as it once was or at all anymore, which is when I learned that he had penned much of his life living in NYC around the times I've also experienced it (more so through the entirety of the 90s, being only able to observe visually as a younger boy in the late 80s). I decided to get a copy of 'New York City Junky Days'....and received it today in the mail. At only page 7, I realized that I may not be able to put this book down for very long 😅. taken in New York, New York by @_am_was_

Founded by Scott Richmond & Jonathan Kadish in 1994, Satellite Records wasn’t just a record shop, it was one of the beating hearts of New York City’s dance music scene. From its original home at 342 Bowery to its later spot at 259 Bowery, it became a pilgrimage for DJs and vinyl addicts from across the globe.

Long before streaming, this was where you’d hear tomorrow’s records first. With pioneering in store listening stations, one of the earliest record store websites, and shelves packed with the freshest imports, Satellite helped redefine the record buying experience.

Whether you were into house, techno, trance, drum & bass or progressive, there was always something waiting in the bins. On any given day you might find John Digweed, Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Frankie Bones, DJ Pierre, Danny Howells, Deep Dish, David Morales, François K and countless local DJs all digging for their next secret weapon before heading off to Twilo, Sound Factory, Tunnel, Limelight, Vinyl or the Roxy.

Back then, a proper day in NYC meant making the rounds at Vinylmania, Sonic Groove, Decadence, Eightball Records, and Satellite. Every shop had its own identity, but Satellite always felt like the crossroads where scenes collided and new music spread by word of mouth. by @_am_was_
