In Gaza, “farha” has never meant happiness alone.

It is the wedding that brings an entire street together.
A graduation celebrated by every neighbor.
A new job, a birthday, a newborn, a loved one returning home.
It is any beautiful moment that becomes shared—because here, joy has always belonged to everyone.

Before, news of a celebration would travel quickly.
People would leave their homes, pull out the chairs, turn on the lights, and gather without hesitation.

No one asked who would be missing.

Now, every joyful moment begins with silence.

We look at the empty seats.
We count the voices that are gone.
We remember those who should have been standing beside us.

Our celebrations did not disappear.

But from empty kitchens, long roads, and families waiting for someone to return with flour.

Young men would leave before sunrise and walk for hours toward aid trucks. They were not going to work. They were not chasing a dream. They were trying to bring home enough flour to keep their families alive.

Some reached the trucks.
Some were pushed back.
Some were shot.
Some returned wounded.
Some never returned at all.

And even those who came back carrying a bag of flour were not safe. The road home could take everything from them—the bag, their strength, their brother, their life.

Do they mean the life where I grew up to the sound of bombs?
The life where fear became part of my daily routine?
What life, when I watch my city being destroyed, my dreams growing smaller, and my childhood passing between waiting and survival?

I am not asking for a perfect life.
I just want an ordinary one — to wake up without fear, to sleep without explosions, and to dream without feeling that my dreams are more than I am allowed to have.
