Hot Sheet presents 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 by @_amyhl as part of @minor.attractions 2026 at @thenewmanlondon

This is our third collaboration with Amy, following her first solo exhibition with us in 2024 and her inclusion in our annual group show that same year. Since graduating from the @royalcollegeofart in 2023, Amy has also presented a solo exhibition with @unitlondon alongside exhibitions in Taiwan with @riverartgallery_tw and in Shanghai with @linseedprojects

𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 explores memory, sensation and the fleeting moments that transport us back to places, people and feelings from the past.

We’re so happy to continue our collaboration with Amy and can’t wait for you all to see her work at Minor Attractions 2026!!! taken in The Newman by @_amyhl

Amy Hui Li in her studio.

Hot Sheet is excited to present @_amyhl's 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 as part of @minor.attractions 2026.

Amy Hui’s 2024 exhibition paradise lost, presented with @unitlondon, marked her first major solo exhibition in London. Hui’s practice questions the conventions of painting through sculptural works that occupy the space between image, object and surface. By extending painting beyond the confines of the canvas and into three dimensions, she explores the material, tactile and perceptual possibilities of the painted form.

𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 explores the fleeting moments that connect us to memory, and the ways sensory experiences can transport us back through time. Music, scent and visual imagery have the power to awaken forgotten moments, bringing fragments of the past back to life, captures these delicate connections between memory, emotion and experience.

This is how Amy Hui Li paints emotions that don’t yet have names.

Moving between painting and sculpture, Amy Hui Li uses bold colour and fragile materials to give form to emotions that are difficult to articulate.

Her paintings draw on the emotional traces left by everyday experiences, a song that suddenly brings back an unknown memory to finding hope in an otherwise difficult moment.

Rather than naming exactly what we should feel, Li purposely leaves space for the audience to recognise emotions of our own in each piece.

‘𝗮𝗺 𝗶 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗮𝗺 𝗶 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁?’
oil and mixed media on organza
170x116cm
2026

i felt like my body was pulled away and forced to focus on things outside the studio. learned to adopt a new lifestyle, learned to take it slow, learned to save my mind and energy for more painting time while doing something else. since when did painting become so hard to please oneself (myself).  but once the result ‘pay off’ / is achieved, it could take one’s happiness to another level - i believe the word is: breakthrough.

“The hardest part of artmaking is living your life in such a way that your work gets done, over and over - and that means, among other things, finding a host of practices that are just plain useful. A piece of art is the surface expression of a life lived within productive patterns.” - ‘Art & Fair’ by David Bayles & Ted Orland. 📚 by @_amyhl

Currently on view: ‘Hundred Quilts: No Knots Without Weight’ at @riverartgallery_tw until 16th May 2026.

‘Hundred Quilts: No Knots Without Weight’ is both soft and profoundly load-bearing, open in form, yet carrying a quiet resistance against erasure. It proposes a practice that confronts silence through acts of stitching, one that receives and holds the weight it inherits.

The exhibition brings together six artists whose practices span paper, painting, sculpture, and installation. Taking the “patchwork quilt” as its central metaphor, the exhibition examines its cultural formation, material structure, and corporeal labor embedded within. It traces how textile and fiber practices, shaped by scarcity, rupture, care, and migration, gradually form a structure capable of sustaining life, through which material regains a renewed perceptual and symbolic weight in the present.

In an era marked by accelerating technology and the continual proliferation of differences, the exhibition does not emphasize “fusion,” but instead focuses on the bodily imagery of patching, layering, compression, and repetition inherent in the patchwork quilt. Through these processes, migration, trauma, care, and memory accumulate in a tangible way, forming a material structure. Here, fiber operates as a vascular or nervous system, tracing the pathways through which life and history flow across visual and spatial fields.

halfway through 2025 felt like the next stage of life. paintings, families, and friends, left and remain.
i once came back to london to fulfill my dream in art four years ago on christmas eve, during the pandemic. i was extremely lucky to meet all my dear friends, tutors, and beloved at the rca’s graduate diploma and ma painting. looking back at myself four years ago, i am pleased with all the efforts and hard work that i did. i hope four year after in the future, I will be able to say and feel the same way about myself.
