Full circle. Older brother then, girl dad now.

Growing up in an immigrant family as the eldest son, I always felt a responsibility to look after my little sisters.

Trinna is 7 years younger than me, and Suzanne is 2 years younger than her. Now I look at Emerie and Eliana and see a little bit of us in them.

Maybe being their older brother was preparing me for this all along 😂

But becoming a dad to two girls has also made me look back at my own childhood differently. At the kind of brother I was. The kind of son I was. The things I learned from my parents, and the things I want to do differently with my own kids.

110 degrees at one point but tbh all the rides are AC, no lines, and it wasn’t that bad.. everyone made it, the girls were champs, and we hit all the rides multiple times

Disneyland always makes me reflect a little differently now.

My first time at Disney wasn’t until my freshman year of high school. And it wasn’t until 2013 that my parents, my sisters and I finally went together as a family.

Growing up, we’d go back to Vietnam every year, but a trip like Disney felt different. It felt like part of that “American dream” my parents came here chasing.

Now, getting to come here with my own family and watching Emerie experience it makes me think about all the sacrifices my parents made. The things they went without. The risks they took. How hard they worked just to give us opportunities and experiences they never had themselves.

And now I get to do the same for my girls.

I don’t take that for granted.

Grateful for where we are, but even more grateful for everything and everyone it took to get us here. by @_andrewtran
