As Rehearsed is a movement film about the silent contract of performance.

This film was shot almost a year ago as an impromptu shoot between me and Tanny. I think both the process and the film represent the story it’s trying to tell. What started as a performance, a rehearsal, slowly turned into a collapse into something more honest, perhaps influenced by fatigue, even delirium.
Ultimately it’s a portrayal of how, as artists, we rehearse and perform every day to build a legacy we may never achieve. This creative journey can feel doubtful, pessimistic, even hopeless, and with it grows a hatred towards the audience that gets to dictate how good our art is. If you knew the last time you would ever perform, with no care for who or what it was for, this film is my answer to that.

Where it all started. I saw @jourdencox post an ISO/roll call on my feed (very random, wasn’t following her page at the time but I had some of music saved already) so I shot my shot not expecting anything. (Literally the 5 mins before I was boarding a plane to visit family)

I love drawing my derpy stick figure storyboards and it’s so fun to see the difference between how it started and where it ended up.

I also love making treatment/decks. Though I was still learning how a treatment should be made, I chose to divide the music video into scenes so it’d be easier to follow along.

Sharing my favorite sections and stills from KING KONG + a small reflection below:

Instagram captions won’t let me write too much so I’ll save a more detailed reflection on the creative process for another time but I’m glad I did this project and I’m proud of the work I made. The way I approach life and work has significantly changed because of the process for making this music video.

Thank you to @jourdencox for taking a chance on me, to believe in my potential at a point where I had no visible work that could prove my worth. To @thiiiiiha @sofinellaa for being an amazing support system as my producers. Taking on challenges and last minute problems and handling them expertly. Meeting you two was the highlight of my year. To @alexkchandp for trusting my vision and being an amazing creative collaborator and becoming one of my closest friends who continues to push me everyday. Stockline Launch Film (DC)
