AREA 405, Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival, and Animation Love Affair collaboratively presents you— 👁️ SWEATY EYEBALLS: SWEATY EVERYTHING 👁️ OCT 9-NOV 13, 2026 👁️ OPENING: OCT 9 | 5:00-9:00 PM 👁️ AREA 405 | 405 E OLIVER ST, BALTIMORE “Alongside Sweaty Eyeballs’ 14th year as Baltimore’s premier animation festival, Sweaty Everything asks us to think of animation as a perspective rather than a medium. When looking at the world, we have an instinct to imagine its life: the ways in which the beings in it interact and move. A narrative emerges, a history. As animators, we see ourselves and our point of view reflected in other artforms. We push upon the walls of our medium, inviting others to expand our realm of possibility. There’s human behavior that connects all of this—sequence, story keeping, embodiment.” —Curatorial words by MD Vazhappilly, Emily Kobert, Wylder Voegele, and Nadia Nazar of Animation Love Affair @_area405_ @sweatyeyeballsanimation @animationloveaffair #animation #sweatyeyeballs #bmoreart #baltimore by @_area405_
Read the review of our recent exhibition SOFT WATER on the Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art, with words by Rui Jiang @secretary37_ @whitehotmagazine “This exhibition is a metamorphic reshaping of the draught that flows through the hall with water and flesh; it is the inescapable retreat of subtle political metaphor; it is the one in the midst of the water, gathering firewood for the multitude—is it agility, or, compassion?” Artists: Yuhan Shen @y_shen_ Qiuyu Wu @illusivemirror Curated by Joyce Liang @nine.one.four #exhibition #area405 #qiuyuwu #yuhanshen by @_area405_
In a city that often loses its talent to larger markets, AREA 405 stands as a rare anchor—preserving accessible studio space and sustaining Baltimore’s creative community. Our latest Cohart Editorial explores the impact of this artist-led hub, alongside works from Pitted: Home at the Heart of an Empire, an exhibition examining land, labor, and the structures that shape place. On Sunday, Oct 25, First Flush welcomes Jacq Jill @itsjacqjill , a leading figure curating and guiding Baltimore’s underground music scene for more than a decade. Known for her versatility, and thoroughly queer, JJ’s sets pull from grimy club sounds, house, liquid sound design, bass and techno. Her recent Sunday morning set at @zap.outdoorz in the woods have made a festival highlight, with crowd waking up in the mountain to hypnotic rhythms, as the morning light slowly filters through the trees and the world begins to breathe in sync with the music. First Flush is excited to present another hypotonic experience with JJ at the Electronic Stage from 1-3 PM. See you there. First Flush believes in the concept of liminality. By definition, it is “the realm of the ‘betwixt and between,’ where the structures that bind us in ordinary life begin to loosen their grip” (monastic.com). — First Flush Electronic music, tea, and mahjong 📍 @_area405_ (Baltimore, MD) 🔗 Events link in bio #ElectronicMusic #Tea #Mahjong #FirstFlush #Baltimore by @_area405_

HERE IT IS!!! Happy to share with you a new dance performance my collaborators and I have been working on for the past year. Ticket link in bio! _________________ A meal, an urn, a broom, a towel, a bowl, a pair of chopsticks, a sponge, a pot. Washing, chasing a fly, doing the dishes, running around, coughing, humming, laying, rolling. Through absurb movement vignettes and fragmented conversations, four movers transform boring actions and mundance objects into a 40-minutes dance performance contemplating labor, its struggles, and its beauty. Topics included but not limited to: working at the aquarium, the fetish of Vietnamese springroll, the sound of lips trying to force a smile, saying "good jobs" multiple times, etc! _________________ The Gravewashers is a new experimental dance performance performed by Bao Nguyen, Ray Phillips @exraybabes , Corinne Shearer @exraybabes , Sam Hopler @sammhopp with creative developmental input from Julia Beros.
