Amelia,
This time last year, you were still here, and I never imagined how much your absence would shape the days that followed. It’s been a year since you’ve been gone, yet somehow I find you with me more and more every day. For the longest time, your name would still appear in my suggested texts and calls, and popping up on my keyboard anytime I typed the letter “A.” My Spotify was filled with the playlists we made together, and my notes were full of the shows we planned to watch—everything we dreamed of doing side by side.

Now, as time keeps moving, your messages slip farther and farther down, the products you left behind running low, and the photos and videos we took together have been replayed so many times that I find myself searching for more “Amelia content” that simply doesn’t exist.

Every day, I move through life searching for you in the little moments, finding pieces of the story you left behind, and holding onto them tightly. I walk down the hallway of the apartment we shared and still catch myself about to call your name.

I keep searching for a connection like the one we had, and living with you during my first two years of college was one of the greatest blessings of my life. You were taken far too soon, with so many dreams still ahead of you, but I’m grateful that my path brought me to you. Even though we didn’t get the lifetime I imagined, the love and lessons you left me stay with me every day…

and I still carry them with me just like I did this time last year.
