Our prototype lasts in the workshop. The master lasts are carved by hand from Hornbeam wood because of its dimensional stability during changes in humidity. Once complete, the lasts are scanned, graded across the full size range, and duplicated in recycled plastic, turning on a 4-axis CNC machine. Monsummano Terme, Tuscany.

A much-needed closet reorg revealed a troubling number of shoes. I wouldn’t call myself a collector. Collectors seem to take care of things. I should probably use shoe trees more often.

It did get me thinking about a few of the brands I’ve come to love.

Dispatch #6 is about three slightly off-piste shoe brands that have found their way into heavy rotation: August Special, Timothée Paris and Vogel NYC. The shoes, the people behind them, and why I wear the hell out of them.

Also, some thoughts on comfort shoes, leopard-print loafers, Paul Newman, Applebee’s, and why I like my shoes the way I like people: elegant, but a bit fucked up.

An original US Marine Corps field boot in the studio. This model was originally designed in the late 1930’s as a lightweight yet durable field boot, it was issued through the mid 1950's.

This iconic model serves as inspiration for our Belliver Boot. by @_august_special_
