POSTS STORIES REELS

meet Aura, the barber and DJ whose chair on Steinway has become a heartbeat of the neighborhood, where every cut comes with a story.

“Oh, Astoria. The heart of NYC- and mine too.
I’m Aura, @_aurahere, and I’ve been walking up and down Steinway since I was a kid. The neighborhood has grown and changed, as I have with it. We’re both lovely as ever.

As a barber, the connection I feel to this community is unique and deeply personal. I spend my days behind the chair with the people who make this neighborhood what it is. I’ve been cutting hair for the people of Astoria for five years now, but it’s never just about the cut. It’s helping someone get ready for brunch, birthdays, job interviews, breakups (sometimes a haircut really is all you need), weddings, or welcoming their first child.

There’s usually music playing (which makes sense, because I’m a DJ) and between the playlists, conversations, stories, and neighborhood recs, the shop becomes its own little meeting place.

I learned and developed my craft at LIC Tonsorial, and now I’m proud to run AURAMANETAMES I’m grateful every day to do what I love, surrounded by the people who make Astoria feel like home.”

❤️

This is what my days look like now.
A quiet focus on what matters most to me.
Haircuts are the obvious part, care and intention are everything (music included, obviously).
Grateful for this chapter and the people in it.
Welcome to my suite.

The service you all know and love- the hot towel shave. What no one realizes is that it’s just as relaxing for me as it is for you.

Realizing I haven’t posted my work in a while.

The past week has reminded me exactly why I’ve chosen this career- the art of hair cutting & the art of service. My first week @ AURAMANETAMES was an absolute dream because of the awesome community I’ve created. Thanks ya’ll 🥹

p.s. I’ve been loving the scissor cuts with lots of texture lately, what do you guys think? 🥰
