May is stroke awareness month so I found it fitting to share. While this year on the field it was my best year yet, off the field it was a different story. I remember getting a call from my mom while I was standing in the kitchen in 2021 while I was away at college about my dad having a stroke. In June 2023 I received yet another phone call at 3 am asking if I was coming home because my dad was in ICU for his second stroke. This was days before my season started with the Texas Smoke but it was a no brainer I was going to go home. I made it home to see my dad in ICU, which has to be one of the scariest things ever. I remember staying in the room with my dad overnight barely sleeping just to make sure he was okay. Even while in ICU he was his typical goofy self making jokes with the nurses and every chance he got he would let them know I was a pro softball player. At one point he had asked me to play my highlight tape from Minnesota at least five times in a row. I share these stories because he was with me my whole softball career. Fast forward a couple weeks and he was moving around to multiple rehabilitation care homes. He never lost his spark at any of them. In September he was able to come home and has been home since. My dad was unable to make it to a single pro game last season and we are hoping he is able to attend a few games this season. I know how proud of me my dad is because he wouldn’t stop telling me. I decided when I was getting my gloves that I would make one in honor of him. I decided upon blue which is his favorite color, a red ribbon for stroke awareness, his initials J.E.P and the acronym Act F.A.S.T. I am so happy I get to wear this glove and have a part of my dad with me this season. I hope this inspires others to take action and learn more about the effects and warning signs of strokes. I love you Dad and thank you for being there when you can. by @_autumn_pease

I have been wanting to post about this topic for a few months now, considering events that have occurred in the past month I feel the need to speak about my own situations. Growing up I have learned that mental health is considered taboo to talk about. It shouldn't be. In the fall of 2020, my roommates sat me down and told me that they wanted me to seek help for my own safety based on my behaviors and thoughts. I was told that if I didn't seek help on my own that they would for my own safety. I took it upon myself to go to my trainer and talk to her. Within a short amount of time, I was talking to a psychologist and seeing doctors that would then diagnose me with depression. Without my roommates I would have never reached out and found help and who knows if I would still be here. Taking those first few steps was the hardest part of my journey to where I am today. The first time I felt limited by my mental health was when I was applying for jobs later that year and I had to mark that I have a disability, I never thought of myself that way. I have walked into practices and games and have had no desire to want to be there, but I had to put on a happy face and work until I was physically exhausted as well as in my already mentally exhausted state, I never thought I was considered disabled. by @_autumn_pease
