Drifting out of my usual orbit for a while and thought I’d leave this paradox at checkout: strange how Allah flings us across the map only to teach us how to stand perfectly still — just somewhere else.

We build fortresses of routine around ourselves, but every now and then He changes the scenery. Millions of us ants in transit, to and from what we call “home,” yet travel has a way of reminding us of the sheer size of the world and the smallness of our certainties. Home is, in many ways, a made-up place; not Kharaitiyat, not even mum and dad’s in Dukhan. If it’s belonging we seek, we belong only to the One who created us — He who is closer than حَبۡلِ الۡوَرِيۡدِ.

Uncertainty often grows us more than comfort and familiarity ever can. It happens when we loosen our grip on calendars, plans and what ifs and learn to trust both His timing and His decree over all our affairs.

Trying to hold moments for everyone in my sujood, hoping for fewer of them on planes and trains and more on grass and soil. InshaAllah, the coming weeks bring you sakinah in stillness and unexpected blessings tenfold. by @_ayaz

Mihrab, Reworked
2015–2026
CNC-milled Foam and Marble Powder

The mihrab is a recessed, arched directional marker, typically defined by symmetry, proportion, and hand-worked plaster detail. Here, it is constructed through machining and subtraction. The form is held but not stabilized: edges have shifted, weight is uneven, and pattern logic is interrupted. Industrial processes replace hand-carving, leaving visible traces of cutting, indexing, and correction. The result does not resolve into a fixed order, but it does not collapse either.

Muqarnas Mosaic Tiles
Acrylic polymer on 4mm MDF
Twin Set 45 Pieces

Muqarnas is an architectural element found most commonly on the interiors of
domes and minbars (niches) in mosques and palaces. The geometric structures in
this work are derivatives of the 8-pointed star and function as foundational
components in the construction of Muqarnas.
Presented as an interactive arrangement, the work invites participants to physically
reconfigure its layouts, intentionally disrupting established proportional rules and
canonical ordering systems.

Not being able to find the original pieces (last slide), it was great to revisit ideas from over a decade ago and enjoy tinkering and making things from scratch at @gubgub.studios Many thanks to @yousef_painter & @abufuttaim for the creative push and French painting therapy sessions. Canvas and tent poles

Developed in response to an opening exhibition centered on tents unfolding to reveal art, this work extends that narrative through stretched canvas tent fabric shaped into a playful bird in mid-flight. The form departs toward AutoFix, a site that became an improvised hub for creative production in the absence of a formal studio space. Balancing makeshift construction with movement and symbolism, the work reflects themes of migration, resourcefulness, and creative emergence from industrial environments. by @_ayaz
