I recently took off on a month-long trip, knowing nothing about the place I was going, the people I would meet, or the experiences that awaited me.

on my first day in London, I stared out of the bus window, taking in the sights for the first time. after months of waiting, I’d finally made it. a swirl of emotions ran through my head and I took a moment to look at myself in the reflection of the window. I peered into my soul and asked “what am I looking for in this country?”

I spent hours roaming the streets, desperately trying to find answers to questions that I couldn’t even come up with. almost as if I was on a scavenger hunt with no list or clues.

on these walks through the city I began to take in the art, the flavor, and the culture as London unfolded around me—a world so vibrant—so alive—right at my fingertips. new memories in the making.

as I opened my eyes and saw the city in its full glory, I realized that I was getting so caught up in my search for answers that I wasn’t taking the opportunity to build myself through this experience.

london has literally burned down multiple times, and even through this, it’s not just standing tall; it’s flourishing. through the highs and lows, the city stands strong, and so will I.

when I was leaving london, I thought back to the beginning of my trip. I stared into my reflection in the bus window and wondered if I had found what I needed. I smiled as I thought back to everything london had opened my eyes to. the reflection staring back at me was the same body that I saw a month prior, but now had a new outlook on life.

london helped me prove to myself that I could not only handle change, but thrive through it. It showed me that change is necessary, and with that, it’s important to appreciate every moment as it happens and let time flow on.

so thank you, london, for allowing me to see every moment as an opportunity to think, be present, and most of all, be grateful.

the journey may be over, but the memories remain (as do the insta posts). london, you are forever a part of the person I am, and I can’t wait to come back. by @_aydencole

while I enjoyed my solo adventures, nothing could compare to the moments I shared with my newfound friends. I wouldn’t have survived without the people I grew close to, without the laughter and comfort of my group. whether it was going to Half Moon, Canary Wharf, Camden Market, or any other corner of this city, being there with them made every place a million times better. from strangers to friends, our bonds grew deep. i’m forever grateful for these amazing people, my London family. by @_aydencole
