Delighted to have made our Spanish debut last week at the Palau de la Música for Sociedad Filarmónica de València. Thank you for having us!

We played music by Francisco Coll - @francisco.collgarcia - , Fauré and Brahms, shared with an audience full of familiar faces 💌

hadn’t played Janacek sonata in a while and performing it again, especially at this moment in time, made me think. it creates such strong images of desperation and violence, and at the same time has these glimpses of real humanity. i’m under no illusion that being a musician is quite a self absorbed activity - however times like this do make me feel that music can have an unbelievable ability to convey some very fundamental human emotions that never really change. so somehow this work, which was written during a war over 100 years ago, still feels relevant today. //

This is how our journey to the Lighthouse began, rehearsing Britten’s 2nd quartet in the @hawkwood_cft

We spent five days together, having never played as a quartet before, exploring this music but also going for walks, talking for hours, eating together and sight-reading music. It feels so right to be learning music this way - with space, stories, debates, singing, inspiration from our surroundings and beautiful people. Day 3 summary - we went on a trip -
📍Ligeti’s Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes led to Steve Reich’s different trains, Sciarrino’s quartet no.5 continued to Julia wolfe’s retrieve and finally we arrived at Leclair’s A minor violin concerto 🪩

A spectacular Korngold quintet, the most joyful Mozart piano concerto and an incredibly special Ravel ‘ma mère l’oye’ opened this years festival🪿
