Holy Week came to a close with @mammoth_tuff
What a day, what a venue, and what a physical depletion ensued for 6 hours.
Perhaps the most beautiful location for any bicycle race, mammoth really throws a lot at us. So much sand, lots of heavy breathing, and a beautiful afternoon spent “riding “ with friends. I especially owe a beer or two to @doclundy for helping me achieve my goals.
Proud to add this to accomplishment of wins, but Holy Week was much more than that.
A gift to spend the week in mammoth with my family and showing my little one some of our passions. Always thankful for the opportunity.

Freshy on the @cervelo Aspero!

Absolute fun little BTS for the second shot of @rambleonwild to get the glorious shot.

We had all but finished that part of the work, and we turned the corner from the bottom of the canyon and looked at the opening of the massive valley.
The shadow over the last hill was inching, leaping down - making for a spectacular light (what do I know)
We shared seasoning in and out of the shadow for Jared and Ashley.

I can’t recall if it was Jared’s or my idea, but we thought - hey, while Shannon is riding towards the horizon, rip by her and as you cross the nose of her front wheel, lock into a skid and kick up some dust. Well - somehow we got into timing it pretty perfectly (I did almost eat absolute crap x times)

Jared and Ashley got the sickest shots, directing and letting us have fun. It was invigorating to run down all the light we could get, all while sprint skidding as much as my semi enlarged heart could entertain ❤️

She took me on a date.

Mostly because I’m not cleared to drive.
6 weeks tomorrow since I’ve been a much less helpful husband and dad. But over The Weeknd we got out for a few short hours to hang out and spent some quality time.

My lady has picked up our family pieces while I’ve been healing, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Our kids are what feels like peak difficult, so the timing was obviously perfect.

Thanks helping and caring for me.

First 24 hours at home.
So thankful to be out of the hospital and start the process of getting this franken-leg back to hearth.

Few things of note since I’ve been home.
• Joy of having a family to come home to and have immediate love.
• Feeling guilty that I got injured and cannot help with our kids
• Happy to be able to have a job coaching so I can immediately get back to my athletes.
• Realizing the impact of having major surgery and I can’t just skip over any of this process
• Having my Lovely wife to help make goals and things for me to do.
• Having friends support me with this silly injury.
• blessed to have a bit more bike racing to watch live ❤️

All the meds I’m prescribed before leaving.

Stoked.

Me staring at my son as he climbs onto the table for the 5th time after I’ve already pulled him down, seeking to drip his hands into the Greek yogurt he claimed he was finished with so, he can smear it on some surface other than our hardwood floor And then cry when I take him down on last time before giving into the inevitable fate of the house being destroyed once more. Today.

Happy Tuesday. I love writing these because I love my kids, and getting to parent them.

I also love run on sentences.

Local Monday night TT:

Still feeling the soreness from The Great Descent on Saturday, with a much-needed rest week (or two) on the horizon, the TT was my final hurrah for this pedal block.

Fueled by caffeine and focused like a kid with a new video game, I was moderately ready. One flat tire leaving the garage. Another on the way to the start, a loose headset, and at the start, the front went flat again. Conditions were perfect for a very average power output, maybe a little speed. Hopes dashed, annoyance crept in, and for a moment, I almost gave in to being a little B

Across the street or any measurable distance from my internal grievance, no one cares. So, I took photos of my friends racing the TT, called for a rescue from my little family, and the night was saved.

It’s tricky to manage this mentally sometimes. Being competitive is fun, and we all love pushing ourselves. So when setbacks happen, it’s annoying. But having my kids eager to pick me up, care about my performance, and not worry beyond that fills my heart.

Life is bliss if we choose to see it that way. by @_bakerbrandon

A BEAUTIFUL DAY

Exhausted father factory racing event # … 3 of the year? Yeah sounds right.

Arriving to Burbank was spent with the preceding days lying in bed with the sickness from the little gremlins we are raising. But you know what? Life doesn’t always provide opportune times to be healthy in the exact moments we want - so we race!

@camronbaker and I showed up for the 6am number pick up, ease dropping on people talking about how cold it was predicted to be at 6000+ ft for the days climbing - we only had vests for outer layers. Nice.

La tourist is always such a good blend. Always having rad riding, and some stuff no one wants 🤣 truly what makes this event permanent staples for the year.
Each time taking us, me specifically, on roads and roads I’ve never been on. What a freaking treat.

Highlights of the day:

Our @stinnerframeworks podium Refugio’s being the GOAT bikes for these races. No issues, just perfection. 🤌🏼

@borist__ ripping our legs off on his training grounds, doing Threshy for what felt like an eternity.

My new, purchased by me, @corosglobal Dura being INSANE. I hate my old head unit in comparison.

I lost my voice 20 min in. Couldn’t speak for much of the day.

Seeing @filip_tomaska jonesing over the possibility of poor weather looming - piss off 😅😘

Getting #69 for my race plate - can’t really mess thy up for the page collection

@cyclingj always approving my blind route making, then laughing at how long the day will be

The day actually being incredible temp wise, so we survived.

This bro wrote the points in his wrist - you rock and that’s the absolute spirit.
