One year ago today, I moved back to Arizona with a heart full of uncertainty, a life that looked nothing like I had planned, and no real idea of what the next chapter would hold.

With a U-Pack holding everything from the home I was building, my car loaded down with clothes, and an entire backseat devoted to Kona, I drove from Houston to Phoenix, going through all the stages of grief in 36 hours.

I was closing a chapter I once thought would be forever and learning how to find my footing in a life I never imagined for myself. There were a lot of things I had to let go of — the plans, the expectations, and the version of myself who thought she knew exactly how her story would unfold.

But somewhere along the way (and I assure you, it wasn’t on the overnight drive from Houston to Phoenix), I stopped looking at this chapter as an ending and started seeing it for what it really was: a beginning.

A year of rebuilding, rediscovering myself, making new memories, finding my own rhythm, and learning that life can still be beautiful when it looks completely different than you imagined. A year of realizing that starting over doesn’t mean starting from nothing. You bring every lesson, every bit of strength, and every version of yourself that got you here.

I did not do this alone. There were countless shoulders to cry on, stories retold more times than I can count, and a never-ending carousel of breakdowns that I was lovingly held through. I am so grateful for the incredible support system I got to come home to. My friends, my family, and the amazing people who supported me mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially — I genuinely don’t know where I’d be without you. (Probably still somewhere in a fetal position, crying.)

Here’s to the unexpected chapters, the quiet growth, the plot twists, the people who carry us when we can’t carry ourselves, and the beautiful things that happen when life asks you to begin again. 🌵🤍 taken in Scottsdale, Arizona by @_bdubya
