Blessed to be leaving my teenage years the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been by @_ben.bray

6 months ago today, Grand Canyon made the unexpected decision to eliminate their men’s volleyball program. Despite being extremely successful, obtaining a large fan base, and being home to some of the nations best volleyball players. This decision left the entire volleyball world wondering why, and to this day we go unanswered.
I never made a permanent post on my feed addressing this situation, and now that there has been some time to think and reflect I figured I would.
I knew I was going to play at Grand Canyon since I was 16 years old. I idolized their players, wore purple damn near every day, and literally counted the days until I got to be a true part of this team. Moving to Arizona was everything I thought it was going to be and more. The friendships I developed, memories I made, and lessons I learned formed me into the young man I am proud to be today. I am so beyond blessed that I got to be a part of such a special group of people. From the staff, to class and team mates, professors, and mentors all having such crucial roles in my happiness and development.
This team set numerous records and created history countless times for this universities athletic department. Achievements like first team to be ranked #1 in the country, or first team to appear in a final four, but my new favorite being if you look it up, “Best program in NCAA sports history to get cut”, there we are yet again, making history.
Due to the timing of this, in correlation with the current NCAA landscape for Men’s Volleyball, many of us with eligibility left are done playing. This event definitely put me and I’m assuming some of my other teammates in a very dark place for quite awhile.
Now I made this post not seeking pity, but rather as a thank you. Thank you to every person who made that 2 year period of my life so special, you know exactly who you are. For those 20 or so young men who I went through this with, I hope you’re doing well and I miss you a lot.

Maybe it’s the end of @gcu reputation…🥴 But MVB has a place at the D1 level—it’s the fastest growing high school boys sport in America!!

Let’s keep the rally going! We can be influencers of change. #savegcumvb #growthegame @gtgmvb taken in GCU Lopes by @_ben.bray
