🔥🔥The Pendulum Sweep (Using the lapel)🔥🔥
.
I love this sweep! One movement gaining 6 points! Using the lapel gives you a strong grip and handle making it difficult to posture. Everything else is within the setup. I've hit this a number of times in competition. The KEY, wait for them to go back down to their knee after they post their leg. That's a natural response as they feel the setup. But because of how I have their arm across, it's hard to maintain that position without going back down to their knees. Then execute!🤙🏽

A great Saturday at the IBJJF Baton Rouge Open! I feel satisfied with my performance. My preparation allowed me to come in calm, relaxed, and READY! I believe, for the most part, winning and losing happens in preparation. Preparation is where I thrive.
.
Thank you to all who showed me love, support, and contributed to my preparation. Like always, it takes a village, I have a big village.

IBJJF AUSTIN OPEN 2023
Went 1 - 1 today!
.
I had a solid group of seasoned Black Belts to challenge myself against. I won my 1st match 6 - 2, hitting a sweep I've been getting since Blue Belt. Meat & Potato Jiu Jitsu will always be sound.
.
Lost the Finals 0 - 2. It was an uneventful match if I'm being honest, BUT I took something away that I'll put some specific time into cleaning up. Always learning!!
.
Thanks to my Professor's, Teammates/Training Partners for all the prep work during training, it really does help a lot. Thank you all for the support as always! On to Dallas.

This is my Triumph, over everything that tried to break me. That little boy inside me survived so that the man I have become can be set free! Triumph is the compelling story of my life! Working on the pathway to getting it published!🫶🏽

🔥 Alchemy Jiu Jitsu Academy coming soon! 🔥
.
It will be lead by 2nd Degree Black Belt, Professor Jerome Roseborough and 1st Degree Black Belt Professor Thompson Marikano.
.
Both are current active, ranked IBJJF competitors who we are sure you have seen on the comeptition circuit over the years. Each bring their own respective styles and knowledge. Using the same framework, we at Alchemy Jiu Jitsu Academy are looking to fill many of the gaps that are missing that have been noticed over time.
.
We enjoy the exciting, dynamic styles of modern Jiu Jitsu. Without the basic, fundamental mechanics, it makes doing those things much harder. Precise, methodical and systematic breakdown of concepts and principles to be efficient in movement is the goal. No random, disconnected techniques, no memorization.
.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Grand Opening. We hope you'll join us in celebrating the beginning of this endeavor!🙏

This can never be stated or repeated enough. DON'T STEAL PHOTOS, PAY THE HARD WORKING PHOTOGRAPHERS!!
.
Dallas Open concluded this weekend. I had 2 matches but wasn't planning any coverage. This is what makes someone genuine. Zach Roe @zroemedia came and covered my first match. Not because I asked for it or a favor or for something free. I believe I have earned that genuine respect and friendship over the past few years. I have also paid for his coverage a number of times before. He packaged the pics up for me and gave me a generous deal on the whole lot of pictures. He didn't do it with any expectations. Trust me, I am noone special, but for him to use his time without prompting says so much about him. His work is exceptional, he is very professional, and he is out there capturing moments. Decades from now I'll have these memories of a time. That is what is valuable to me. I'm so grateful to all of the photographers I have used over the years. My friends and family get to see these pictures as they support from far away.
.
So thank you Zach, thank you Sharon @creativesbychi, thank you Katy @kpetty_photography, thank you Joe @silverbackclicks, thank you Mary @framesby3z.

As a young boy a question planted a seed. The past 20 years I watered and nurtured that seed along with many other gardners. This weekend we all came together in Ridgeway, SC where a very common story likely exists in many American families today. Only the courageous will ever be brave enough to take that journey and become better for it. It has enriched my life. We are kin!
.
The very 1st picture is of Vincent and I. We both have an ancestor that was born into slavery, they were siblings. We are standing at the graveside of the slave owner, who is also our blood kin. We have never been afraid of these truths, we are just glad to know it.
