CT-3865, known as Zeke, was an ordinary clone trooper in white, stationed in the rear and assigned to supply runs for less active clone bases. Quiet, patient, and dependable, he rarely complained and always completed his assignments.

One day, the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps suffered heavy casualties during a surprise attack by a battalion of droids. Zeke was sent as one of their replacements. Despite having no reconnaissance experience, he adapted quickly and became a capable scout.

After serving with the 91st, Zeke was reassigned to the 212th Recon Division. On his second mission, his position was compromised. Before he could relocate, an enemy mortar round struck his position, hitting him in the face. Somehow, against all odds, Zeke survived, leaving him with a permanent scar on the left side of his face.

During his time with the 212th, Zeke completed over 90 successful reconnaissance missions before eventually being transferred to the 501st Attack Battalion as standard infantry. While serving with the 501st, Zeke took a blaster shot to the right side of his chest. The medics wanted to patch him up and issue him new armor, but Zeke refused, insisting on keeping his damaged armor.

Despite his injuries and constant transfers, Zeke remained quiet, dependable, and willing to serve wherever he was needed.

Blaster fire had stopped a while ago, leaving only the sounds of wildlife in the distance. The smoke had cleared, but the forest was still quiet. ARC Trooper Vex walked ahead, his red-marked armor covered in dirt from the long march.

“Commander Vex,” Clone Trooper CT-4198, known as Stix, said as he stepped over a root. “Still no sign of the squad.”

Vex looked around at the trees. “They’re out there, Stix. We keep moving.”

Bird-like sounds came from somewhere in the forest. They didn’t sound quite right. Stix raised his blaster.

“Separatist probe droids?”

“Maybe. Stay alert.” Vex looked toward the west. “The fallback point is still that way. If the squad made it, they should leave a beacon.”

Hours went by as they moved through the thick forest. Vines caught on their boots, and every small sound made Stix look around. Vex kept walking without slowing down.

“Sir,” Stix said, breaking the silence. “What if they didn’t make it?”

Vex looked ahead. “Then we find another way. We’re not done yet.”

The forest continued on in front of them. Tired and unsure of what they would find, Vex and Stix kept moving west, hoping the rest of their squad was still alive.

We’ve been on this planet for a month, and I already hate it.

If the clankers aren’t trying to kill you, it’s the humidity or the wildlife. Hell, even the planet itself spits toxic gas every now and then.

Saw one of the shinies take off his helmet and sit down today. Next thing I know, he’s foaming at the mouth and gasping for air. Doc tried to save him, but he said he’d never seen that kind of reaction from a plant before.

The kid was dead in less than a minute.

Never even got his name.

You’d think after everything we’ve been through, I’d be used to watching brothers die. Guess I’m not.

Hopefully, I make it off this God-forsaken planet. Sergeant Trell says the older guys probably will, but for the new ones, not so much.

I hope we all do.

In the trenches, every army tells the same story.

Different uniforms. Different wars. Different generations.

Yet the mud is always cold.

The air is always heavy.

Every soldier learns that survival is measured one step at a time.

For this collaboration, we explored the theme “In the Trenches,” using two different moments from across the Star Wars galaxy to show that while armies and allegiances change, the trenches remain much the same.

History remembers victories.

The trenches remember everyone.
