SWEAT FM / BLISSPOINT / STALAGMITE Wednesday, September 2 Doors 7 PM MUSIC AT 7:30PM $15 or PWYC Always all ages Chicago’s @_sweat_fm is the project of Dominic Rabalais, making restless electronic punk where samples, synths, guitar, and pop hooks are constantly being cut apart and pushed back together. There’s plenty of noise in it, but a sharp sense of rhythm and melody underneath. KJHK called the live show “an odd yet exciting whirlwind.” Brooklyn’s @blisspoint call themselves “NYC SLAMGAZE,” taking the scale and blur of shoegaze and giving it considerably more weight. Huge guitars and industrial textures meet new-wave rhythms and melodies that stay surprisingly clear inside all that distortion. Kalamazoo’s @stlgmt work from a darker post-punk and new-wave vocabulary, building songs around repetition, atmosphere, and tightly locked rhythms. In their words, “moody atmospheres with infectious grooves.” GLOW HALL 246 N. Kalamazoo Mall Downtown Kalamazoo $15 or Pay What You Can. PWYC available at the door if the show does not sell out. No one turned away for lack of funds. taken in Glow Hall by @_blisspoint_
