🇲🇽❤️ I am the daughter of two immigrants.

My dad left school in the 2nd grade, never learning to read or write, to work hard labor and help provide for his younger siblings. My mom left middle school to work and help her family, too.

They were children who had to grow up too soon.

Eventually, they left behind the country and family they knew and came to the United States, not knowing the language, but hoping to build a better life for the generations after them.

They were scared. They worked hard. They sacrificed more than I’ll ever fully understand. But they kept going.

My dad left behind his “Nina,” who said goodbye knowing she might not be there when he returned to Mexico.

She was right. She passed away before he could return.

That story reminds me that the sacrifices my parents made weren’t just about leaving a country. They left behind people they loved, memories, opportunities, and pieces of the lives they knew.

I carry all of that with me.

I am able to dream about my future because they dreamed about theirs. I have opportunities they never had because they sacrificed for the generations after them.

So this Hispanic Heritage Month, I honor my parents—their courage, hard work, sacrifices, losses, strength, and love.

I honor the families who left everything familiar behind so their children could have a chance at something more.

I am Mexican. I am American. I am Mexican American.

And when I celebrate where I come from, I am celebrating them. ❤️🇲🇽

Our culture is more than where we come from — it is a part of who we are. ❤️‍🔥🇲🇽
As a Mexican American Latina, I wanted to create something that celebrates the beauty, strength, and diversity of the women in our community. This Hispanic Heritage Month, I brought together local Latinas to honor not only where we are today, but the generations who came before us.
Our heritage lives in the language we speak, the food we make, the music we dance to, the traditions we carry, and the stories our families pass down.
It is important that we continue to teach our children where they come from — to speak the language, to know the customs, to celebrate the traditions, and to understand the sacrifices and strength of the generations before them.
Because when we preserve our culture, we preserve a piece of our family’s story.
And when we pass it down, we make sure it lives on.
To every Latina who carries her culture with pride: your heritage matters. Your story matters. You are part of a legacy that is bigger than yourself.
May we continue to honor where we come from, celebrate who we are, and make sure the generations after us know exactly where they come from. ❤️
Nuestra cultura vive en nosotras. Nuestra herencia es nuestra fuerza. Y nuestro legado continúa. 🇲🇽❤️‍🔥
