We met by chance in Tallahassee, nine years ago. She was just a girl, and I was a young boy learning what it meant to live on my own for the first time—outside my parents’ house, outside certainty, outside comfort. I didn’t know then that I wasn’t just finding a dog. I was finding a companion for one of the most formative chapters of my life.

She grew with me.
As I learned how to navigate the world, she showed me how to move through it with patience. When I was restless, she was steady. When I was overwhelmed, she was calm. When words failed me—and there were many moments when they did—she understood anyway. She taught me that love doesn’t always need language. Sometimes it just needs presence.

She was there in the quiet moments, when action mattered more than anything I could say.
A hand on her fur.
A look across the room.
A shared silence that somehow felt full instead of empty.

Through her, I learned growth—not the loud kind, but the slow, meaningful kind. The kind that teaches responsibility, compassion, and sacrifice. She showed me what unconditional love really looks like: loyalty without expectation, comfort without judgment, and hope without conditions.

She didn’t just walk beside me through life—she anchored me to it.

Letting her go was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was also my final promise to her: that I would protect her. I held her the way she had held me all these years—by simply being there.

She gave me nine years of devotion, lessons I’ll carry forever, and a love that doesn’t end just because she’s no longer here.
She lives in who I’ve become.
She lives in my patience.
She lives in my heart.

Thank you, my girl, for growing up with me. For teaching me love, hope, and how to stay when things are hard. I will miss you every day—but I will carry you always.
