Here I sit in the waiting lounge of gate 221 at LAX with 2 hours til setting off on my 15.5 hour Qantas flight back to Melbourne

Huey snored a little as I took this picture before heading off with my new friend Andrew who kindly gave me a lift to YVR Vancouver Airport early this afternoon. Not having to negotiate public transport with my luggage is a blessing and I am endlessly grateful to him for the favour.
After picking up some paint for a job he dropped me at the airport for the 3 hour wait, then met a cool chick, Devon, my neighbour for the American Airlines flight here to LAX. I managed to catch the Hollywood sign on the hill as I sat, agape, at the size of this place.

Now 3 hours here gives a chance to replenish and recharge before the journey ahead.
The sun winked goodbye over the distant building (LAX is a city unto itself!) as I rounded the corner to sit here in the lounge.

My thanks to those helpful and endlessly available airport trolleys that take the disabled and infirm the massive distances airports contain. At this stage of the journey I didn’t feel like walking a marathon! Done enough of that over the past two months.

Uber early start to the day with a dawn ferry across from Gibsons to Easy Vancouver then a walk through English Bay to the Laughing Men and one of the last trivia nights of the iconic Bayside Lounge.

I have experienced Vancouver.

It is good.

Home tomorrow.
Argh.

A bit of yesterday and last night in Whistler and today I parted from Anna, perhaps for the last time, before I caught the ferry back to the Sunshine Coast where I joined with Andrew and his family for Canadian celebration of Thanksgiving. A lovely, cheerful and convivial gathering leaves me chock full of food and feeling the fatigue of hardly any sleep all weekend.
I think it will be a night spent here before heading back to the city tomorrow before the big trip on Tuesday.

My last day in Gibsons started with the cloud so low it reminded me of an Aussie horizon.

I completed Zoom interviews with Brain Injury Canada and with Fraser Valley Brain Injury Association.

As the sun went down I interviewed my kindred spirit Sandy for A New You. Her wisdom is deep and great.

I’m going to miss her!

On the way home stopping at an AnW drive through to pick up burgers for Anna’s son and a pup patty for Pepper.

I’m going to miss her!!

Tomorrow we leave for Whistler for the weekend and I am departing these fine shores on Tuesday.

It will be ‘Until the next time!’
For Canada and for Anna.

Our outing for the day introduced me to the trail named ‘Soames’.

Physical Challenge!

Doing the journey up, past the huge old trees, some sheathed in layers of vibrant moss, was a pretty ‘big’ deal. Not ‘huge’ like going up the last push (which would have availed me of a much more unobstructed view) but ‘large’ enough for my footing to begin to be unsure. Signalling I was reaching the end of my fortitude so I gladly used the banisters supplied to bolster the dreaded journey down.

I only stacked it once… right at the end but it gives me a skinned calf and bruises to bring back to show I have lived… again

Our night ended giving me the chance to meet a couple of Anna’s good work friends. They all are at the ‘Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living’.

Winding down into my last week here seems almost disappointing but I am girded by the excellent experiences I can look back on and smile with a warm heart and resolve to return.

Our day spent completely in Gibsons.
Meeting my friend Sandy at the famous cafe from the long running tv show of 1972-1990 ’Beachcombers’, many of these shots feature this place (now running under the business name ‘Black Bean Cafe’). Maintaining the vibe is of utmost importance.

There is a shot of an eerie patch of sunlit clarity on the far shore in which a boat sails, sunset and tree lines over the blanket of cloud, a pile of bear scat outside Anna’s place and the Avgolemono soup I cooked for dinner tonight.

You can also see the remembrances to Gibsons above the clear shoreline and beneath his statue, namesake of this beach.

I saw a coyote heading up a track 50 metres ahead tonight! Such a beautiful tail. Nothing like Wile-E-Coyote. Phone retrieval was too slow unfortunately!

Tomorrow I interview not one but two features of neurodiversity services on this shore and across the water in East Vancouver. With just one week to go, I’m cramming it in now!
