I'm extremely fortunate to have witnessed such a beautiful bird in Chicago. Snowy owls (búho nival) rarely come this far south from the Arctic.

Spotted this beautiful Bald Eagle (Águila Calva) ~500 ft away from me overlooking the Longjohn Slough in Willow Springs, IL (by the Palos Trail). Conditions were a bit rough (low light and mosquitoes everywhere) as a massive storm system had just arrived in the area as I took the shot.

Quite happy with my first ceramic study of Panamanian pre-Columbian artifacts. This piece (14.5 x 9 x 4.5 inches, about 15 lbs) is inspired by the Veraguas Gold Standing Shaman (22k gold, just 4-1/4 inches tall and 148 grams, seen in the 3rd photo), which I used as reference.

The original was made in Panama circa 500-1520 AD and now lives at Art for Eternity gallery in NYC (@hnowes). Its story: it was once part of the collection of Ferdinand Grebien, who arrived in Panama in 1911 to work on the Panama Canal and became a lifelong collector of ancient Panamanian gold.

As a Panamanian, I find pre-Columbian art and artifacts incredible, and something not highlighted enough, even back home. Shoutout to @o_dago.tattoo for the incredible research and resources on his account, and for inspiring me to explore this part of our history.

My intention was to make it look gold, but glaze can be unpredictable, so it ended up looking more like bronze, which I still love.

Bastante contento con mi primer estudio en cerámica de artefactos precolombinos panameños. Esta pieza (14.5 x 9 x 4.5 pulgadas, unas 15 libras) está inspirada en el Chamán de Oro de Veraguas (oro de 22k, apenas 11 cm y 148 gramos, ver 3era foto), que usé como referencia.

El original fue hecho en Panamá alrededor de los años 500-1520 d.C y ahora vive en la galería Art for Eternity en Nueva York (@hnowes). Un poco de su historia: fue parte de la colección de Ferdinand Grebien, quien llegó a Panamá en 1911 para trabajar en el Canal de Panamá y se convirtió en coleccionista de oro panameño de por vida.

Como panameño, el arte y los artefactos precolombinos me parecen increíbles, y algo al que no se le da suficiente visibilidad, ni siquiera en nuestro país. Gracias a @o_dago.tattoo por la increíble investigación y recursos en su cuenta, y por inspirarme a explorar esta etapa de nuestra historia.
