Its not real often you see a season like this one, my fourth hookup for the season came on the 21st of march, a “birthday beakie” unreal to say the least. The morning session was so dead, I nearly fell off the tubes punching a bait out as I was that tired 😅 on a quick run up to the car for a coffee and a reset, I looked back and saw 2 big heads of current ripping right in past pyramid and remember thinking to myself, wow that looks good, turns out as I came around the corner from the stairs it was going off, 3 hook-ups in 45 minutes and @kylelack hooked up on 15 and ripping in, me just being stoked to gaff and help one of the boys claim his trophy wasn’t enough apparently, soon enough I was away on this lit up, healthy as black, a birthday beak, thank you to the boys that helped, the usual suspects, @cantsmellthec0ffee @darrin.wilso @corbohub ethicus, young zaccy on the gaff ❤️ @coreykerr77 and many others, what an afternoon 🤯💦💦💦 🔥 🔥 🔥 #iykyk #huey #cooked #fisherman #keenangler by @_ch.da

This photo still displaces so many memories all at once, this being my third hookup for the 2026 season, after fishing for 5 seasons to hook just the one, the damage was starting to set in after losing two for various reasons. A 6pm hook up with only a few die hard hopefuls still on the rocks made it that much more exciting and wildly surreal, thanks to the boys who fished hard to the death that day, this would not have been achievable without you 🍻 🍻 @andre3915 with some absolutely cracker footage, @coreykerr77 and steve on the gaffs, @ndkknd for the support and capturing the last moments while andre went to assist the other boys and my boy @brett_rushton_ for moving heaven and earth to get this thing boated out and weighed IYKYK ❤️❤️ what a feeling to well and truly crack the 100kg+ mark. Lastly and as usual thanks to all the boys, the ones who keep me psyched, pumped, and keen to keep fishing hard, and keep ya awake on the drive home 😅💦💦💦 #marlin #black #theboys #landbased #angler by @_ch.da

Black marlin off the bricks, the most awesome experience I’ve had come my way fishing land based, shared with an awesome bunch of blokes who I can’t thank enough for the years of experience and knowledge passed on, the push to fish hard, the mateship, the shared ups and downs that come hand in hand with the game and the donated bait that got bit 👊 @brett_rushton_ 😘 hats off to this guy and @jamielack_ for making it stick with gaff shot, the little bird on my shoulder pulling the strings, thank you uncle chad and my brother @darrin.wilso taking me on the first trip to the tubes back in 2016, the first of many trips to the south coast chasing a story to tell #blackmarlin #landbasedgame by @_ch.da

After all the conversations I have heard, bait needs to be here or there, moon this and tide that, the magic bullet your after is missing your first guide, tense times on a donated rat king as the horse of a fish sailed out to sea. Thanks @corbohub for documenting this moment. @kylelack can confirm the 100% effectiveness of this technique 💦 💦 💦 hookup number one out the window 🍻#jerry #marlin #landbased #whoops #fuck by @_ch.da

Finally managed to land a big cobia, and to do it with just myself and darrin wilson only on the ledge, return kudos after watching him fight and helping him land his near 40kg cobia from this same ledge quite a few years ago ❤️ #landbasedgame #cobia #blackking #chocolate #log taken in Nelson Bay Marina Port Stephens by @_ch.da
