STOP aiming your sound UP—aim it FORWARD.

As you ascend into your higher vocal range, think of directing the sound forward rather than pushing it upward. This can help your voice project more efficiently, maintain a connected sound, and reduce unnecessary throat tension as you sing higher.

Think: forward → connected → free.

Ever notice how some vocal phrases seem to melt away beautifully, while others can feel abrupt or a little “cut off”? 🎶

When ending a phrase or transitioning out of a sustained note, we want the sound to release smoothly rather than suddenly disappear.

One technique you can try is gently introducing an “H” sound about halfway through the sustained note. This allows a little more airflow to pass through the vocal cords, gradually reducing the intensity and concentration of the vowel.

The result? A softer, lighter, and more effortless decay that can make the ending of your phrases sound sweeter and more natural. ✨

Pam absolutely nailed this one after just a couple of tries! 👏❤️

Give it a try and see if you can create that same smooth, beautiful release in your own voice.

Happy practicing! ♥️🎤 by @_chaukim_

Tension and tightness can “lock up” the voice, making it difficult to move smoothly and freely through our range, register, and different vocal textures.

When we’re singing our favorite songs, the goal is to create a voice that feels connected, coordinated, and flexible—not forced. This exercise is designed to help release unnecessary tension and encourage smoother vocal-cord coordination as you move through each phrase.

Think of this exercise as a way to help your voice find more freedom, consistency, and ease, so you can focus less on “making” the sound and more on expressing the music.

Give it a try, then apply that same feeling of ease to a phrase from one of your favorite songs. 🎶

🎤 Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Muscles in Singing

*** Save this video as a collection of reminders for yourself or send it to someone who you know may need this***

Healthy singing relies on coordination, not brute force!

The intrinsic laryngeal muscles help control vocal fold closure, pitch, and vocal quality, while the extrinsic muscles help position and stabilize the larynx.

⚠️ Overusing the extrinsic muscles can contribute to excess tension around the larynx, restricted movement, jaw and neck tightness, and less efficient vocal production. This may make singing feel effortful and limit flexibility across registers.

✅ Better practice: Develop efficient vocal coordination without unnecessary tension. Allow the larynx to move naturally rather than forcing it into a fixed position.

The goal isn’t to eliminate muscle activity—it’s to coordinate the right muscles with the least unnecessary effort.

🎤 WEIRD WORKOUTS THAT WORK FOR SINGERS | EP. 6

Save this as a collection of reminders for yourself or send it to someone who you think may need this. ♥️

Want to explore your vocal break? Try a little yodeling—or that exasperated sound we just talked about! 🗣️

That playful, almost “I’m so done with this!” sound can be a useful way to explore the transition between vocal registers. As you move between lighter and fuller vocal qualities, you’re practicing the coordination needed to navigate your vocal break with greater flexibility and control.

The goal isn’t to force your voice through the transition, but to let the change happen naturally. Keep it light, easy, and comfortable, and pay attention to how your voice responds!

Happy yodeling! Haha! ♥️

Guys, meet Bani.

Bani is one of the worship leaders that I get to train and lead here in Las Vegas. She has voice that people would call a gift but what’s more impressive is her heart. If you ask her, she’d say it’s no work of her own, but God.

To get to train, lead, and mentor the students that I do for a living is one my greatest blessings in this life.
25 years and counting!♥️

Drop me a line in the comments: what’s a blessing you get to count each day?

Ep 4 of Weird Workouts that Work well for Singers!

Points to remember:
*Not in order of importance.

Take the pressure OFF of being perfect and beautiful when you sing UNTIL you KNOW your instrument inside and out!

Explore > More reps

Go make random sounds and get OUT of your head. You will have nothing to be impressive about if you are stuck inside your head. Lean into the awkward until it’s no longer debilitating!

Be a resonator, an instrument that prioritizes resonance instead of a temporary moment of beauty in sound.

Change your mindset and your approach toward singing and performance and your instrument will thrive and in turn give you exactly what you’ve been striving for. ♥️

🐡 EPISODE 3: WEIRD WORKOUTS THAT WORK FOR SINGERS

Let’s use the blowfish shape + forward sound projection to reduce overthinking and discover more vocal power without tension.

Think: connected vocal cords, efficient airflow, relaxed facial/jaw muscles, and a forward-directed sound.

The goal isn’t to push the voice forward—it’s to allow balanced, effective vocal cords coordination and breath pressure to create a more resonant, projected sound with less effort.

WEIRD WORKOUTS THAT WORK — Episode 2.5

Things to remember:

Prioritize the vowel.

Get your vowels sorted and your sound and over all singing will be much strong, fuller, more present and predictable for it.

Let the vowel “travel” and don’t let it them be stuck in your head/throat. SET THEM FREE!

Sometimes, singers need to “divorce” the consonants from the vowels.

If certain syllables feel tight, muted, or resistant, temporarily separating the consonant from the vowel can help the vowel establish clearer vocal cord connection, resonance, fullness, brightness, and stability.

Once the vowel is functioning freely, we can then reintroduce the consonants.

Happy practicing, Fam! ❤️

If certain syllables feel tight, muted, or resistant, temporarily separating the consonant from the vowel can help the vowel establish clearer vocal cord connection, resonance, fullness, brightness, and stability.

Once the vowel is functioning freely, we can gradually reintroduce the consonant.

In this episode, I demonstrate this technique using the word “feeling” for the females and my student Rashian demonstrates it for the male voice.

WEIRD WORKOUTS THAT WORK 🎤 | EP. 1.5

A vocal workout series designed to help singers develop vocal cord balance, strength, agility, and range.

There are 3 levels of compression. Use the one you feel you need for that occasion, but practice all three to build awareness and control of each level.

🔹 BREE — greatest compression
🔹 BWEE — medium compression
🔹 BWHEE — lightest compression

Try each sound as a siren, smoothly gliding from low to high and back down again. Keep the movement connected and easy—don’t push or force the range.

As you practice:
• Keep the sound forward toward the nose
• Stay light and balanced—no pushing or excess load
• Focus on maintaining a clear “E” vowel
• Let the siren move freely through your range

Save this post and the next few episodes for your daily vocal workout! ♥️
