So I did a thing
& since I’ve done it a lot of people keep askin me why.. I started my loc journey in March of 2020. Crazy to think how long ago that was and how much has changed since then.
Since I started my locs I LOVED them and I loved what they stood for; a personal, cultural, and spiritual commitment. Over the 6 long years having them, watching them grow stronger and longer only made my attachment to them even stronger. This by all means was not an easy decision to make. Cutting them was much deeper to me than just wanting a new hairstyle. I literally believed I wouldn’t even know who I was without them .. but that is why I had to let them go. Right now I’m going through a transitional period in my life & I have a lot of possible directions. I’m not too focused too much on trying to figure out exactly where I’m supposed to end up, but more so recognizing what this season has been trying to teach me. Transitions reveal relationships. Going foward, I’m paying closer attention to people who celebrate my growth without competing, tell the truth, want to see me succeed, respect me and my boundaries, and help bring me closer to the person I want to become.
As I’m getting older, I’m paying closer attention to what I’m outgrowing whether it be friendships, relationships, habits, environments, ways of thinking, or the version of myself I had to become to survive the previous seasons. I don’t hate my old life but I recognize I’m outgrowing parts of it. Sometimes God closes a door not because you’re going backwards, but because you’re being redirected. Don’t just pray for a different life. Become prepared for it. So when y’all ask me why I cut my locs, just know it genuinely aligns with who I’m becoming.
