Daddy (Josh),

I’ve always said to my friends that my dad was not a normal dad, but never in a bad way. From day one, our bond was different . Letting me drive at 10, sneaking out for Shipleys at 2 AM, and those late night trips to Whataburger or Jack in the Box. I had my first margarita with you in high school, and when I handled it like a champ, you said, “that’s my child,” and I knew we were different.

Whether we were listening in the garage or blasting music in your car, my music taste is all thanks to you. You took me to my first bar.You taught me to drive with distractions by taking my phone and blasting the music. You’d come home late just to talk with Kiara and me about anything and nothing, and cooking with you showed us how to as well.

You warned me about slacking in school and shared your own mistakes to steer me right. You taught me car maintenance, cleaning, and survival skills.

Our relationship wasn’t a typical one, and I didn’t get it until now. Thank you for doing your best, flaws and all.

Your cancer diagnosis was unexpected, but you faced it with optimism and bravery , finding peace with it. I wish we had more time to create memories. You always said the Lord was with you through it all. And he was . You could’ve been gone a long time ago before cancer but God carried you and I know he will continue to now that you are with him. They said God has a special place for the ones who are unique with their walk, you are one of his special ones. You’ll be missed, my forever drinking buddy. First Ward to the end!❤️🫶🏽🪽
