Introducing our next live artist for our “After Dark” runway, @_cipher_sight_ ⭐️🩷

“My artistic practice sits at the intersection of painting, installation, and performance, exploring the body as both subject and material. Through tactile engagement with the figure, skin, hair, and organic and industrial materials, I examine how the body becomes a site of experience, memory, and transformation, and a vessel for experiencing interpersonal embodiment. My works merge portraiture with abstraction, where colour, movement, and materiality transcend literal representation to express psychological depth and inspire interconnectedness. My work explores the collapse of thresholds between human and non-human, self and environment, and inner and outer worlds to build relation in separated times.“

Our inaugural opening as Runner Up Contemporary is Ash Lyons: Traces, Skin & Flesh

Opening Wednesday 28th of January 6pm - 8pm.

On view until Feb 25th.

Traces, Skin & Flesh is the conceptual and material ground of Ash Lyon’s body of work. Incorporating hair, metal and tattooing traditions, the work explores painting as object, engaging the frame and surface as active sites. Skin is considered in its universal capacity something porous, relational, and held in common. Rather than isolating the body, the work approaches skin as a shared surface across human, animal and plant life, understood as an epidermal layer that situates bodies in relation. It draws on lineages of figuration and abjection in which bodily boundaries are unsettled. Tattoos and hair function as sites of identity and inscription, allowing personal experience to be read in relation to broader social and environmental systems. Ultimately, this is about painting through and beyond the body.
