Life has a crazy way of working itself out.

When I first joined @ncspartansbasketball, my goal was simply to help some of my players prepare for high school basketball. At the time, I had no idea that basketball would introduce me to a lifelong brother in Terrell.

Fast forward through countless summer and winter seasons, and now we’re sitting on the SAME bench, chasing the SAME goal. 🏀

Today marked the beginning of a new journey for both of us with @wscs_athletics and @wscs__globalmbb.

And to make this journey even better, one of my good friends and someone I genuinely trust in basketball, @bigvern1, gets to join us and bring his knowledge, experience, and value to the staff.

I had no idea what was next. I just moved forward on faith, trusted God, believed in myself, and believed in the value I could bring.

Sometimes you don’t get the full picture, you just have to take the next step.

Grateful for the journey. Grateful for the relationships. Grateful for the opportunity.

And most importantly, grateful for what God is building. 🙏🏾🏀

Growth in youth sports isn’t always something you can see in the box score.

It’s in the way a player starts to see the game differently, move with more purpose, and make better decisions under pressure.

As coaches, parents, and athletes, we have to look beyond the numbers and recognize the real development happening every day in practice and competition.

Because the truth is the most important improvements often don’t show up on the stat sheet.

They show up in confidence, awareness, and understanding of the game.

That’s real growth. taken in North Carolina by @_coachstarnes

Had great experience at the @fab40enc showcase with my girls! They got to play with and against some of the best middle school talent in North Carolina. Alyssa was selected as 1 of 20 all-stars of the event. Kailyn and Brooklyn had stong play on the court recording rebounds, strong defense and some scoring. Proud of how they representing Stokes County today. taken in Competitive Edge Performance by @_coachstarnes

I was wrong.. I tell my girls it’s just middle school basketball often and it’s not.. this is their peak at this moment.. this is my peak at this moment.. this group has taught me so much. They’ve forced me to learn new things in order to win. They’ve taught me it’s okay to soften up, It’s okay to be silly sometimes. They showed how to be a girl dad before I officially was one. So the emotions I feel are not from the results of the last game but the fact it was the last game together. This was my first group as a head coach.. we started with a 28-2 loss to Mount Airy to a runner up finish in the conference championship with a 14-3 record. This group, parents included, trusted me going through summer together to get results when it really matters. They so many reason to give up but kept fighting all the through the final buzzer of their middle school career and I couldn’t be more proud of them. They set the bar high, trust the next ones up are ready for it!
