That time @neffa_t played Owsley at @weoutherefest. Shout outs to @hardcoreenergy for making the whole thing happen, and enormous ups to @josiebee_ for being the catalyst for both of the EPs this year (your flowers have finally arrived) 🔊🔊🔊 by @_constrict

OUT TODAY

Back again for his second outing on Hardcore Energy, Constrict returns with the Owsley EP – four cuts confidently darting between the darker corners of jungle, 160 and euphoric hardcore. Creative sound design, genre-bending arrangements and plenty of low-end nastiness make this one a proper trip from start to finish.

Opening title track Owsley wastes no time getting in your face. Toeing the line between techno, acid and 160, forceful four-to-the-floor kicks and splashing rides carry squelching 303s and ethereal vocals over driving percussion. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, a trance-like breakdown emerges, with pattering breakbeats guiding us towards an equally forceful second drop.

Crustacean takes things somewhere altogether more sinister. Theatrical pads swell and contort around a head-nodding half-time intro, where textured bass and chasmic vocals echo through the mix. Then the amens take over. Full-blown tearout breaks, bass stabs and wobbles err towards 140 in essence, but hit with the unmistakable power of 160.

After two darker excursions, You’re So Cool arrives like a ray of sunshine through the warehouse roof. Rolling amens and uplifting keys bring a welcome dose of melody and euphoria without losing that rugged rhythmic edge. A proper change of scenery that proves Constrict isn’t afraid to let a little light in.

Closing cut Turboworx sees Constrict link up with Zonae for a final blast of peak-time power. Slamming kicks and writhing amens do the leg work while a bubbling acid line slowly claws its way to the surface. Heavy, relentless and built to shift the mood of a dance. by @_constrict

Sundown at King’s Tor, summer 2026.

I wrote this ambient tune around 2018-2019 and didn’t do much to promote it but it’s one of my favourite things I made back then. It was a prolific time because I didn’t care much about mixdowns, I was chasing flow states every day.

When I was filming this footage I had a few other tunes in mind I could pair it with, but this one fitted with the mystical sunset vibe the best. The trusty 2006 digital camera once again making an appearance.

Music content hack: save yourself having to learn a TikTok dance or mouthing in sync with your bassline by buying a 2006 Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. I like how it makes the present day look nostalgic, and there’s clearly not enough nostalgia bait on the internet already (sarcasm).

I make music production content every day at work, so when I want to make things for my own music it usually feels like a Sisyphean task. I’m hoping this silly 20 year old camera can get me out of this rut by making the process more novel. It is a very whimsical and enjoyable thing to play with. It restores a childlike wonder by being a bit rubbish. Plus, having a dedicated camera that doesn’t frequently remind you that we’re all totally doomed is quite a freeing experience for breaking out of the dreaded black mirror.

Thanks to all this brain rot we all like so much, music has sort of become a visual art style too by default, whether we like it or not. Only a select few get the chance to break through the algorithms without doing this part. Maybe content doesn’t have to feel overly cringe or impersonal to make though (your/my mileage may vary). I’m also doing long captions now to trick you into giving me more watch time, did you notice yet? by @_constrict

Very grateful to release these 5 tracks on a label that I constantly draw tunes from, @hardcoreenergy. The Shellcode EP is the realisation of many dreamy atmospheric writing sessions, imagining vast landscapes and bizarre sci-fi imagery that I couldn’t draw because I can’t draw. Link in bio, obviously. Enjoy or something x by @_constrict

Oi! You! Grab ya blue-lensed wraparounds and look pensive – Constrict has blessed the label with the Shellcode EP. Trust us when we say this is PhD-level intelligent junglism.

How Do I Look opens with glitching ethereal pads and distant plucks, providing an airy backdrop for steppy breaks and a bouncing 808 bassline. Elevated by ambient vocal riffs, the second half unfolds into a collision of worlds – spacious horns drifting across an acidic 303 line. It’s a nod to that golden-age atmospheric blueprint, reimagined with new-age clarity and depth.

On C4$H BR4NDYCOOT, Constrict keeps the skies open. Dewy-fresh pads and elegantly arranged strings float above deep-grooving double basses and warm sines, while uplifting vocals bring a sense of optimism that feels distinctly 1994. There’s a trace of that Aquasky-era glow; it’s musical, fluid and effortlessly rolling.

Having taken us above the clouds, it was only a matter of time before blue skies turned stormy grey. Femtocell pivots into darker territory, blending tearout amens with dissonant vox and growling reese lines. While the mood tightens and tension builds, the breakwork remains precise and purposeful.

Shellcode stands as the EP’s centrepiece. A real standout track with pure steppage on the drums, warbling basslines weaving beneath surging pads and a proper stick-in-ya-head vocal melody. Deep, dark amen rinse-outs ground it firmly in the dance. If this one doesn’t move the crowd, check their pulses.

Closing the EP, Desert Cruising Gizmo feels like the perfect summation. Nostalgic yet forward-facing, its reversed vocal chops and beautifully placed melodic elements glide into tight breaks and heavier drums, carrying emotional weight without ever feeling cluttered. by @_constrict
