Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2023
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Ironman Lake Placid 2025 - third full Ironman. A rough lead up to the race coming so soon after Ironman Texas. I was injured the month after Texas then got pneumonia which knocked me out for another month. Kinda bad I just sent it on an Ironman but I wanted a finish this year. Swim was pretty good but then my wetsuit started cutting into my skin so had to unzip in the water which slowed down my time A TON. Bike was something new, it poured from mile 2 to mile 112. At least it was a gorgeous course to distract me from the rain but I paid on the hills. 30 mile slight climb on each loop with 3 big hills near the end so my legs were cooked before even going into the marathon. Marathon was just a straight run/walk due to cramps and a lack of fitness from the past 2 months but I did get to pet 3 dogs. Overall happy with the result considering how my training went going into this. It will be my slowest Ironman time ever so only up from here by @_danielgibbs_

2024 Waco 70.3 - Absolute monster of a race. Felt super strong going into the race and proud of the work I had put into the training but my body wasn’t cooperating the weekend of. I had trouble eating the day before and the day of the race which led me to racing on an empty stomach. During the race I had trouble stomaching fuel which led me to throw up 6 times throughout the race and severe dehydration. All in all, proud of the swim, happy with the bike but cooked it a little too hard the first half, then bombed the run so needs work. It’s still a learning process coming from short course in college and transitioning to mid and long course so it’s still only up from here. Need to focus on fueling and not blowing the legs up too early in the race. Next race Ironman Texas 2025 for redemption by @_danielgibbs_

04/22 Ironman Texas. I AM AN IRONMAN, after months and months of hard training it paid off. 140.6 miles of pain, blood, sweat, and tears made tougher by having 3 big races in 3 weeks. The hardest race I’ve done and one of the worst races I’ve had. I woke up sick which made everything harder from there. The swim I got a bad start and got shoved around which led to a bad T1. T1 was a longish run but then my helmet broke which made the bike stressful, had to get a safety pin from the race director to pin my helmet together and hope it held for the bike. The bike went pretty good but 6 hours with no shade in aero position burnt my shoulders with the sun beating down on me. The sunburns later causing lots of pain and discomfort on the run. I also dropped my fuel which cut me down in carbs and calories causing me to bonk and cramp for the last 50 miles. T2 was slow, the ground was wet causing my socks to get muddy/wet (later causing blisters) but got through it as soon as I could. The run is where everything went downhill, after going downhill from waking up… I started strong but having little fuel and suffering heat exhaustion from the bike my body was shutting down the whole marathon causing me to do a shuffle the whole run. Although I didn’t hit my goal of sub 12 hours and I didn’t qualify for World Championships, I finished with a race where everything went wrong and I didn’t do half bad placement wise. It’s only up from here! by @_danielgibbs_

2025 Q1/Q2. Celebrated some birthdays, took a beach trip for spring break, competed in Ironman Texas, and put in some good training. The start to this year I felt like I balanced life/training a little bit better than I have previously. Of course featuring Queen Ruby by @_danielgibbs_

Ironman Texas 2025 - my first ever DNF. Started the race great, swim felt super easy and comfortable and came out 2 minutes ahead, felt good the first half the bike and was holding the 20mph average I wanted then bombed and crashed. I felt confident going into the race; it was going to be a PR, was shooting for top 20, and a World Championship slot but due to an error on my end (don’t pass on the right) and heat, I pulled out after finishing the bike. Too much pain from the crash and couldn’t see straight enough to finish the run. Frustrating day but crap happens, just gotta be better next time. Even with all that, my goals would’ve been tough to hit. This sport has gotten so competitive the past 2 years and I’ll need to get better at cycling and stronger at running to keep up with the competition. Next race is my race and I’m confident that it’ll be better. @ogbeaman pulled me through training this past year and it was a cool experience going through the Ironman process with someone else along my side this time by @_danielgibbs_

Last half of 2024 was one to remember. July took a St Louis trip for a Harbour concert, the zoo, the arch, and the aquarium. September to December included 5 additional concerts of my favorite bands, Astros games, Aggie football (don’t call), Ironman Waco 70.3, and lots of training with Johnny to prep for Ironman Texas. First year out of college was successful and can’t wait for 2025😤 by @_danielgibbs_

2024 Q2: Visited Australia and somehow never got a picture with a kangaroo. Hiked, ran, watched some rugby and footy, drank cheap beer, and saw a lot of interesting animals. June we celebrated the Welsh’s marriage, A&M going almost all the way in the World Series (don’t text or call), and a ramp up in training. Plus the queen Ruby taken in Gold Coast, Queensland by @_danielgibbs_

2024 Q1: moved to Houston and now trying to balance the new life of making new friends, working a full time job, and training for another Ironman. I was able to go to Rice’s Beer Bike with friends, went to a crawfish boil (that I fell asleep at before 8pm…), a few comedy shows, an Astro’s game (go Rangers), and just lots of training with new friends. Q2 will be bigger and better😤 by @_danielgibbs_

Final semester best semester? Aka, my love/hate relationship with triathlon. This was a weird semester and it’s still sorta surreal I’m a former student. I came in as a freshman struggling with mental health issues and rocked a 2.0. After trying to find myself my first two years and having crap grades, I decided to make a change and pursue self improvement and discipline so I turned to triathlon. There’s nothing I could say about the team and the sport that would even compare to how I truly feel. Even after struggling to find my love for the sport again this semester after burning out after my Ironman in April, I started to find my love for the sport again this semester. After pushing my body and mind to the limits for a year, I think I just needed a break to to find the real reason I study, train, and race. I have the utmost love and appreciation and respect for everyone who taught me, trained with me, and helped me through mental blocks, mental or physical challenges, and my low self esteem. Through my time at A&M I was able to find myself and go from a sad little freshman with no friends, no good grades, and having poor physical/mental health to succeeding in all those areas. Onto bigger and better things after graduation. Ironman World Championship and healthy relationships with my body, mind, and spirit I’m coming for you next by @_danielgibbs_

First off shoutout to @the_simonshi @dimond_factory_racing and @guenergylabs for sponsoring me this race! This was a tough race mentally, I took a lot of time off since my Ironman so I was going into this with no training for about 5 weeks which left me feeling weak. I was still shooting for a podium and a PR on the course but it was tough to get there. I swam the same I did the previous year but 3 minutes slower than what I wanted to do, I biked 1.5 mph faster, and I ran about the same as last year but 2 minutes slower than what I wanted. It was a slight PR over last year with an 8th place finish but I still have that feeling that I could’ve done better. If I would’ve continued training, for sure could’ve done better. I guess this also means that this year out of shape me is more fit than in shape last year me. Onto the next race which I’ll definitely be in shape for so everyone better watch out by @_danielgibbs_
