About two years ago, @emmastvalentine was hanging around the studio a lot—cowriting, mix assisting, generally being a true friend—and said I should meet some of her friends. I am very glad I did, because those friends ended up being Sasha and Ruby.

They’re both great writers and vocalists but also great hangs. We hit it off immediately, and I just genuinely cannot think of another set of sessions where I laughed more than with these two. They also both have the best studio-self-care game of anyone I’ve met, pulling up to the session with inordinate amounts of tea and home cooked meals.

They also trusted me, let me play, didn’t get mad when I sc by @_danielmarkus_

New absolute ripper ‘Wilson Park’ out today from @aspnaudio / @brooks.coker (swipe for a little teaser)

Can’t say enough about Brooks—truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. We had exchanged a few messages online and before I knew it, he and @ali_coker6 were gracious enough to not only host me in Asheville but *also* host a show in their living room so I could play some songs. It was so special, especially considering we’d never met until I spent a few days sleeping in their guest room.

This song began then, Brooks and I tracking guitar in the makeshift studio. Now it’s here almost a year later. I was so lucky Brooks trusted me to bring in collaborators like Pele and Sam. I’ve rarely had so much fun on a tune. Mix your tambourine loud as hell (shoutout @jeffellisworldwide) and let @samshoeman unleash his riffs on your music is all I can say!

Produced by Brooks Coker and myself
Drums and percussion performed by @pelegreenberg and recorded by me @junipersoundnyc
Lead guitar performed by @samshoeman
Banjo, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, and a bit o keys from yours truly!

Lead vocals, acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, and additional recording/engineering by @brooks.coker
Piano and synthesizer by @aweqhawe
Additional vocals by @sycamorespringmusic and @jordancokerking

Mixed by me

@earlywormnyc is probably my favorite band in the world, and they happen also to be some of my best friends. I had the honor to mix and master their new EP, and I’d love if you took a listen.

I’ve been listening to these songs for months (and one for years) as they’ve grown up with the band, and it’s such a privilege to me to be immersed in the art of these dudes. Sometimes I would hear music from Henry’s studio below me and sneak down to see what they were working on, but mostly I spent my time begging them to finish the songs so that I could work on them.

We have all grown up together, made lots of records together, and I’m so proud of all of us. These boys just toured with @califone_timrutili, and so if you get the chance, go see em.

Full EP credits

Performed by Liam Hastings, Henry Nelson, Will Curry, and Noah Nelson
Recorded by the band at Grandfather’s
Mix assistant @therealmaxmancohen

Mixed and mastered by me (@_danielmarkus_) at Grandfather’s and Juniper Sound (@junipersoundnyc)

Trumpet @jordanguldman
Piano/wurlitzer @wilsonmanjones

Art by @therealbrookegoldman

Big thank you to Henry and Will for believing in me from day 1, long, LONG before I believed in myself at all. They are as much the reason I’m here as I am.

Music continues to be the best thing I could wish to do with my time. Long live the worms.

Send me a message if you want to hear how your songs might sound with a little extra touch, or if you just want to start your album in my living room.

As most folks know, in December, @junipersoundnyc flooded. That kicked off one of the more bizarre periods of my life (being unable to work, and all), and since getting back in the spring things have been busy as heck but also just felt a bit different, a new chapter, I suppose. I didn’t lose everything, thankfully, but did learn acutely how easily it could have been different.

I’m back now, and have been, and the only reason for that is because of a bunch of a bunch of people from the community who helped me. I’m so grateful to them, and want to give them all the props they deserve. And also just post some photos from the last 8 months that I love.

So many records are on their way, too, and I’m going to focus a lot more on being here. If you don’t swipe through, just come on by the studio and let’s make a record soon?

First and above all, Amy. If you know her you probably know how I feel about her, which I’ll say more about in her birthday which is tomorrow. She answered my insurance questions but mostly just reminded me that things would be okay, and here we are.

So many clients gave me so much grace during this time, all of whom could easily and justifiably not done so.

@dice_blunder (pictured), @earlywormnyc, @babybellta (who took me to Maine!!!), @luminghaomusic, @brooks.coker, and so many more.

I’m lucky to work with some of the absolute kindest and most generous people. Thank you all for trusting me during the most difficult time in my business.

Big, big shout out to @mixing.biz, who was super supportive checking in on things and also connected me with some very, very helpful folks, chiefly among them @briangrossmusic. Without Brian, I absolutely would not have had as much success with insurance, and he helped me on his own time. He’s a great person to work with when it comes to outfitting a new space.

Grateful to you both.

Also, big shoutout to Nate. He was so generous with time and space at his spot across the hall, also frequently lending a hand whenever I was not at the studio (often!) and needed someone to check in on things like, you know, the sprinklers bursting during repairs. Yes that happened.
