People think photography is about having a good eye. I think it’s about solving problems. Speed matters. Speed in replying. Speed on set. Speed in delivering. Getting a guest/client their photo while the event is still happening means they’re posting while the excitement is still at its peak. More reach. More engagement. More value for the brand. If it’s an activation, venue, or installation - I’m thinking about how those images will help market the next event, impress future partners, or show potential clients what’s possible. I’m thinking about my client’s goals - What does success actually look like for them? Is it making sponsors feel like they got real value? Is it giving the marketing team a library of assets they’ll actually use? Is it helping the PR team tell a story their client will be proud of? The better I understand their job, the better I can do mine. Your presence matters too. You’re there to work—but you shouldn’t feel like an outsider. Be friendly. Read the room. Make people comfortable around your camera. Bring good energy without becoming the center of attention. At the end of the day, I want my clients thinking one thing: “Dean’s got it covered.” If they need me, I’m there. If they don’t, they never have to think about me—because they already know everything that matters is being captured. (@orebella event at @sohohouse Miami Beach.
