Shift or Foliogenesis  September 15th - October 1st, 2026 Reception: Thursday, September 24th, 5-7pm  Isa Balbi, William Broich, Georgia Carbone, Cher Engmann, Marc Matchak, Chris Rogy, Caroline Schub, Labdhi Shah, and Sara Spragis  “Each season brings, in its newest creations, various secret signals of things to come.”
- Walter Benjamin, The Arcades Project  The CCNY 2nd Year MFA Class invites you to Shift or Foliogenesis at Colin Chase Gallery. The exhibition includes but is not limited to painting, sculpture, sound installation, and drawing. The title signifies natural processes within the seasonal change during the run of the show while alluding to broader notions of transition and growth across the nine artists’ practices.   This exhibition brings together individual practices shaped by ongoing exploration and personal development. Rather than establishing thematic relationships between their respective works, the artists have created an idiosyncratic presentation of image, sound, surface and texture. Many artworks depart from conventional modes of display. Drawings housed in boxes are placed precariously on the steps of a ladder. Some are laid out on the floor while paintings waft in mid air or stand upright, retaining an architectural function. The approach of display embraces a desired level of experimentation at this stage of academic artistic production while providing a more organic sense of levity with the work’s relationship to the space. From there an aesthetic transparency emerges throughout the gallery, colored by the offerings from the student-artists’ lifeworlds, to suggest invisible connections between disparate objects. Summer is turning to fall and fall will become winter. All of the artists will go on to present solo exhibitions in this gallery during the winter and spring months. For now, Shift or Foliogenesis might function as its own seasonal signal: a moment of transition offering glimpses of things to come. The Art Department's Colin Chase Gallery is located in room 134 in Compton Goethals Hall. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. by @_diap

Please join us on Wednesday, April 15th when Artist Joseph Buckley (@jbxviii) will give a lecture to the DIAP MFA Program as part of the “Theory in Practice” seminar class held by Independent Curator and CCNY Adjunct Lecturer @alessandro.facente Date: April 14th Time: 7:00 PM The event is free and open to the public Location: DIAP Studio - Shepard Hall room 408 Entrance to the building is on the Eastside of Convent Ave at the corner of 140th Street. Selected group exhibitions include ‘Since when did the streets have mouths?’, Below Grand, NYC; The Fight Between Carnival & Lent, Friedrichs Pontone, NYC; 50 Degrees, KINGS Artist Run, Melbourne, Australia; The Secret Realm of Thrills & Concealment, Afternoon Projects/BROWNIE Project, Shanghai, China; Phantom Sculpture, Warwick Arts Center, Coventry; and Poor Things, Fruitmarket, Edinburgh. In 2021 he received a Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship. In 2025 Buckley was Dartmouth College’s Artist in Residence.
