Bangalore, you’ve forced me out of my comfort zone and made me fall in love with something that I thought I no longer connected with. Thank you.

I feel so incredibly blessed to have a family who are, without a doubt, my biggest inspiration and my loudest cheerleaders in life.

3 Individual Golds and 3 Relay Silvers later, I sign off with a heart full of gratitude, pride, and most importantly, genuine happiness.

Sundays with you ❤️

Usually they started early with a game of scrabble, a deck of cards or with me forcing you to play indoor cricket.
Often you’d end them by saying “stop playing around” or “now enough of this”
not because you didn’t want to keep playing but you had a jug of tea and a mission;
You were always adamant to make as many patties or cutlets for us before you had to go back home for the week.

On Sundays you’d walk me to my Elocution class and get me to recite my poetry on the way
Then after we’d grab an ice cream,
buy some candles and head to St Anthony’s cathedral not for a service but just to sit there.
For the longest time I didn’t understand why, and all you said was that it gave you peace and clarity.
Maybe you had to leave for me to understand,
for now when I take a candle into church and think of you,
I find my peace and clarity.

On our walk home you always and I mean ALWAYS made sure I had an eclair - our favourite side quest.
We’d buy scratchies and our favourite pastries,
You’d tell me not to tell Ma how much of sweets I’ve had
and I’d tell you all about school and how I wanted to be just like you and represent our country in a sport.
And you’d tell me being good at something didn’t matter if I failed to be kind;
A parallel I couldn’t draw back then but now I can.

Many a Sunday, you’d take me to a bookstore let me sit on the floor and get lost in a world of imagination.
When I was done you’d tell me stories from your life and remind me that life is an adventure to be lived and not passed by.

There are a lot of reasons to love my Sundays with you,
But I loved it the most because I got to be unapologetically myself;
I got to be curious, weird, loud, shy, wild, and full of wonder.
Because you truly believed that people should be loved for who they are -
My favourite lesson you ever taught me.

On my Sundays with you,
I found pieces of me
that make me the woman I am today
And the woman I want to be.
On my Sundays with you,
I learnt to love this little life of mine.

My Achcha,
I miss you more than I can say or comprehend.
I love you
Through the brightest of stars,
Forever and always ❤️ by @_dilyperera_

Through Family and Faith 🤍

My parents have been my biggest inspiration and guiding force getting here.
My sister has always been my biggest strength and safe space, the one I go running to at the tiniest inconvenience.
My brothers have been the silent heroes who made sure they were always there to catch me when the adventure gets too hectic, the protectors.

This little life adventure of mine wouldn’t mean much if it weren’t for them.

For me, For Them, For Us.

Here’s to the next chapter! 🥂

I got myself a hat with a tassel on it and then someone called me a GRADUATE 🎓

The truth is it hasn’t been a long 4 years because I genuinely enjoyed every last bit of it but I’d be lying if I said I could’ve done it by myself.

My parents have this unwavering belief in me that makes me feel invincible and my siblings are my guiding lights in this crazy world.

This is for me. This is for my family.

Pops, I hate missing you ❤️

I know I’m probably meant to miss you closer to the end of February,
But I miss you the most when an year begins,
The way we used to celebrate you on the first of January rather than the new year.
People have all these resolutions
The “new year new me” passion motivated by having a clean slate,
But my resolutions are motivated by you,
Like the way you embraced life -

How you never let it control you but lived it on your own terms;
How little things like a sesame sweet or a Saturday night poker game followed by my momma’s cooking made you smile from ear to ear;
How your chest puffed with pride when you spoke to your best friend about your grandkids, both of you standing on the balcony - him with a cigarette between his calloused fingers and you with a whiskey that you’ve been nursing for two hours (the legendary Lazarus - Uncle Alex I miss you).

I’m angry and jealous that I got so little time with you,
because Poppy I hate missing you,
I miss the little twinkle in your eye when you asked us for a cheeky chocolate soon after you took your insulin;
I miss how talking to you made me feel invincible;
I miss the way you loved us as if we created the heavens, earth, and everything in between;
But most of all, I just miss you.

I love you forever and always my Pops -
forever and always ❤️. by @_dilyperera_

Apparently getting that tan I’ve been missing ;).
