POSTS STORIES REELS

These portraits honor the resilience, beauty, and wisdom of African American Women challenging the cultural invisibility of aging. Each image is not only portrait, but also a chapter of “HerStory” asserting visibility, dignity and enduring humanity of women whose voices deserve to be seen as much as heard.

My hope is that viewers pause long enough to recognize these women, not decline, but a powerful presence that endures.

Beautiful portraits from @_docsphotos as seen in our Visual HerStory exhibit Dec 2025

Ms. Lange was one of my clients while I was working at the Bradley Senior Center. While a client, I learned that Ms. Lange is the stepmother of Ted Lange the actor who portrayed Issac Washington, the bartender on the TV series, The Love Boat. I often think about her. At the time I met her, she was 88 years old. She told that she didn’t want to live post 90. I don’t know if she got her wish. She moved out town to closer to her family. Her husband died a few prior. She gave me permission to take her pictures. As she lifted the coffee cup to her mouth, I took the picture. As you can see, she looked in the direction of the camera. THIS WAS A PICTURE PERFECT SHOT…. by @_docsphotos
