For as long as I can remember, I’ve been someone who loves deeply, widely, and boldly.

Loving people has never been difficult for me. Stewarding that love has been.

For many years, I poured myself into everyone else. I often put others before myself, loved recklessly, and confused self-sacrifice with love. I believed that constantly giving was the highest expression of love, but in reality, I was giving from places God never asked me to. My love became intertwined with people-pleasing, overextending myself, and finding my worth in how much I could do for others.

Somewhere through life’s disappointments, trauma, and different seasons, I slowly lost the child-like lover God created me to be.

One of the greatest things God has restored in me through Cornerstone Nation is love management.

I’ve learned that love has an order: God. Myself. Then others.

This has been one of the hardest lessons of my life. It has meant saying “no” when I wanted to say “yes,” withdrawing when I wanted to rescue. It has required me to stop carrying burdens that were never mine to carry. Most importantly, protecting what God has entrusted to me. Not because I love less, but because I’ve learned to love wisely.

I’ve learned that every “yes” to everyone else can quietly become a “no” to God, to myself, and to the very woman He is forming me into.

Cornerstone Nation @cccghq has taught me that loving myself isn’t selfish, and it isn’t pride.

It’s agreeing with Heaven about who God says I am.

It’s allowing Him to fill me first so that what I give to others comes from overflow instead of exhaustion.

None of this happened overnight. It came through years of being discipled, corrected, challenged, loved, and restored. Cornerstone Nation has given me more than a church, it has become the place where God restored my identity, reordered my love, and taught me that the healthiest love begins in His presence.

That is one of the greatest gifts Cornerstone Nation @cccghq has given me.

This is what my thoughts used to sound like 24/7: guilt, shame, insecurities, and imposter syndrome shouting at me every single day. I wish I could say those thoughts are completely gone—but they’re not. The difference now is I’ve learned to shut them down as quickly as they come.

Here’s the truth: people who seem to have strong mental health aren’t free from these thoughts. The difference is they’ve trained themselves to silence the inner critic the moment it starts. Even more, they build themselves up daily through declarations—reminding themselves of who they are and why they do what they do. That’s the real secret.

And I didn’t get here on my own. I owe so much to Hour of Meditation @hourofmeditation led by my amazing mentor, @e.adewusi . Because of HoM, I now know exactly what to do when those thoughts show up. It took a long time, but step by step, I learned to catch them faster and faster until shutting them down became natural. At one point, my prayer was, “God, give me a new mind.” Now, my daily practice is: open my mouth, speak the truth, and refuse to let lies take root.

Today, HoM is baked into my life. I start and end my days with it, and it has transformed my mental health.

We’re in the middle of the #IamCornerstone campaign at my church, and this week’s challenge was to spotlight ourselves. Let me tell you—this was harder than I expected 😅

I’m Dorcas Adira—just a girl following Jesus as He writes the layers of my life.
Sure, I could spotlight the roles I hold with great honour and privilege:
✨ Creative Team Lead at @cccghq
✨ CEO of @layeredhq
✨ …and so much more.

But the real spotlight is the story behind all of that—the becoming of Dorcas.

The true spotlight is that Jesus rewrites stories.
He takes ashes and turns them into beauty.
He takes broken pieces and layers them into something purposeful.

And woven into that story is my church community—the people and place God used to restore me.
And my spiritual parents @e.adewusi and @ibukun.adewusi, who didn’t just lead me—but saw me, loved me, and believed in me.

Every layer tells a story. And I’m still becoming.

I started serving at my church @cccghq in 2020 with no experience. No clue how to handle a camera, design graphics, run social media, set up a Google ad, or produce a podcast. I only knew one thing: I had heard God’s call, and I whispered “yes.”

Today, I have the honor of leading our Creative Team—and every time I think about it, my heart still swells. My spiritual father @e.adewusi saw in me what I couldn’t yet see: capacity. He trusted that, with the Holy Spirit guiding me, I could learn and grow beyond my own expectations.

But the greatest gift of all hasn’t been mastering new skills—it’s the family I’ve found. We’re a tapestry of wise, bold, creative souls, each juggling work, business, family, school, and life’s endless demands—and yet, every week, we choose to show up. Sunday after Sunday. Meeting after meeting. Project after project.

Together, we pour out our talents, learn from one another, laugh, and create in harmony. There’s a deep, soul-stirring joy in serving alongside people who share the same passion for God’s house.

Through this journey, I’ve gained confidence, discipline, purpose—and above all, a home. It’s taught me that every quiet “yes” to serve is another brick in the kingdom God is building in us.

One of my favourite quotes is “Your gift will make room for you…” That’s exactly what this moment signifies.

Earlier this month, I had the incredible honour of being recognized at Rogers Place Arena during the Edmonton Oilers game for Black History Month, celebrating Black excellence. To stand in this moment, being acknowledged for my craft, is a testament of grace and the power of purpose.

I never went to culinary school, yet six months, I took an opportunity that has challenged me mentally, emotionally , physically, spiritually and did I say physically 🤭 (more on that later).

This journey has been nothing short of divine orchestration, and I’m beyond grateful for the doors that have opened.

To every dreamer out there—your talent, passion, and hard work will always make room for you. Keep showing up, keep creating, and trust the process even when it doesn’t make sense.

A special thank you to Chef Fabian Ffrench @fabulous_ffrench, who was also recognized alongside me and for the amazing opportunity he has given me. His leadership, support, and belief in my abilities have been invaluable on this journey.

I am overwhelmed with emotions and gratitude and thankful to Jesus to have won the First-Place Award last Saturday at Canadian Imperial Advantage’s Her-conomy pitch competition! Thank you to the Canadian Imperial Advantage team @canadianimperialadvantage , my fellow Her-conomy pitch competitors and the amazing judges for this wonderful opportunity.

I also want to appreciate my Pastors @e.adewusi @ibukun.adewusi, friends, family, all the Her-conomy facilitators, the ANZA team @accec_canada and Priscilla from @destinedconsulting for taking time out of their busy schedules to listen/work on my pitch and practice it with me, even though it was often impromptu!

It is fulfilling to witness the growing niche of Black businesses in Alberta, and I am glad to be part of this. I am grateful to all the companies supporting and sponsoring this movement. Never did I think I’d ever be sharing this story publicly but God had other plans. When you’ve come so close to death, you can never be the same. Life is worth living after a near death experience. Materialistic things, appearances or what people think no longer matter. You no longer live to please people. You begin to prioritize yourself before others. The expectations that people put on you no longer matter. Your only desire is to fulfil your God ordained purpose. That is when death to self begins. You are living to please God. I’m sharing this because someone needs to hear that God loves you and wants to bring restoration and transformation to your life. I’m sharing this because healing brings freedom. There is no shame in my story. Through this experience, I have found fullness and love at @cccghq. I have found the people who are meant to love me into my destiny! I invite you to test God for yourself! I pray that God gives you an experience that will change the trajectory of your life. An experience that will free you to be unapologetically yourself. I invite you to experience restoration and transformation for yourself at @cccghq . I promise your life will never remain the same. by @_dorcasss
