“Chasing them is how I made it..”

I FINALLY met the person who has inspired so much of my advocacy journey @kaepernick7.

I even had the opportunity to read him the post that I made back in 2023 in honor of him.

So glad I decided to make the book tour. Cant wait to read his book, The Perilous Fight ❤️

#throwback

Folks close to me know how heavy last year and this year has been.

Building the @soulaborsummit . Using my platform to speak on critical issues… all while navigating inconsistent employment. There were moments where my passion brought me to tears in anger and resentment of myself, because of the constant realization that it could cost me opportunities.

But I was reminded recently of a truth:
Silence has never protected us. And it never will.

In this episode of SOULABOR Speaks, we talked about the power to choose your voice anyway.

🎙️ Listen to Dear Phyllis now, on Spotify and Apple Podcasts ❤️

Sitting in the historic @hyattregencyatl surrounded by Black history, I kept thinking about the people who dreamed of a future they might never see. We can’t give up now. We have to protect their stories and keep building on what they made possible. 🤎

Next Monday is the deadline for many of you to ensure that you can vote in the upcoming election. Please take your voice and your vote seriously. Take care of your neighbors, friends and community. I believe that things can change and I know many of you do as well. But words mean nothing without action. by @_drivenbydestiny

One truth I’ve learned to accept:

A person knowing you is not the same as them understanding you.

Someone can have years of history with you and still not see who you are. Understanding takes curiosity, sacrifice, a willingness to listen and the ability to meet you where you are.

I’m grateful for the people who choose to do that. Send this to someone who truly understands you. 🤍 by @_drivenbydestiny

If you had told the girl who began advocating before she even had the words—the one who studied sociology and criminal justice, participated in countless walkouts and sit-ins, penned letters to organizational leaders in the fight for equity, and has a panther tattooed on her arm- that she would one day meet a modern-day advocate and leader who inspired so much of her journey, she would have never believed you.

Thank you, #ColinKaepernick, for everything. Your sacrifice, immeasurable. taken in Atlanta, GA by @_drivenbydestiny
