I think 2026 is the year we stop apologising for our backgrounds.

Being working class shaped my creativity, my humour, my resilience, my ambition and the way I move through the world. I’m proud of that.

In 2025, I made the decision to stop trying to fit the mould of what I thought success was supposed to look like and start embracing the very thing that made me different.

A working-class girl from South Yorkshire, with a Northern accent, big ambitions and absolutely no intention of pretending I came from somewhere I didn’t.

So I made my hometown my runway. The streets I grew up on, the places I knew by heart, the Northern humour, the accent I’d spent years trying to soften. All of it.

What started as a little personal project became something that resonated with people far beyond my own little corner of Yorkshire. Seeing other people embrace their roots, celebrate their hometowns and create their own versions of the idea has been one of the loveliest parts of it.

Because that’s the thing about putting something out into the world that means something to you. You hope it makes someone else feel seen, too.

I’ll always believe there’s something powerful about owning where you come from, especially in an industry that can make you feel like you need to be someone else to belong. taken in Yorkshire by @_ellishasummer

Me convincing myself I actually live in a penthouse instead of having a quarter-life crisis. Would recommend tbh 💋

In all seriousness, it’s mad what happens when you stop treating your current chapter like a waiting room for the next one. Started filming little walks around my hometown for the plot and somehow ended up with 16K of you lot, new opportunities for my business and a reminder that maybe the life I was desperate to leave behind actually has a lot going for it 🥹 taken in Yorkshire by @_ellishasummer

FIRST SPEAKING GIG LET’S GOOOOO

Spent my twenties trying to sound less “Northern” in professional settings and now I’m about to stand in front of a room full of people and talk about breaking into the creative & fashion industries… with the strongest South Yorkshire accent going xxx

Taking up space, keeping the accent and hopefully giving a few young Northern creatives the confidence that they don’t need to change the way the way they speak to get a seat at the table.

People are not thinking about your content as much as you think they are 😭

& honestly? That’s GREAT news.

If you’re building a personal brand, you need to get comfortable repeating yourself. So stop worrying that you’re “talking about it too much”.

Your core message should be so deeply embedded in your content that you’re almost sick of saying it.

Because the goal isn’t to be known for one good post. It’s to become known for SOMETHING.

And yes, I’m talking about my working-class Northern roots again. Obviously 💅

Also watch until the end to see my selfie light switch itself off and leave me stranded LOL gr8 xxx taken in Yorkshire by @_ellishasummer

I don’t think I’ve got life figured out (who does?!) but I do know I’ve had to learn some things the hard way.

I think sometimes the biggest shift is simply realising there are more options available to you than you originally thought.

And for the record: wanting more doesn’t mean thinking what you already have isn’t enough.

There’s something quite surreal for me about coming back to London for Fashion Week now.

Because I remember arriving here solo as a teenager, suitcase in tow, from a small town in South Yorkshire - no industry connections, no roadmap and absolutely no idea what my future would look like.

Pulling into King’s Cross station still unlocks so many memories. The 7-bed house shares. After-work drinks in Soho. Meeting people who completely burst my small-town bubble and broadened my mind. Learning to stand on my own two feet, miles from home.

My roots may be in the North, but this is the city that raised me LOL.

And I think the biggest shift has been realising I never actually had to become someone different to build the life I wanted.

Years later, I’m stepping off that same platform as the founder of a multi-six figure business I built from the small town I came from - working with incredible brands, securing seats on the FROW, securing coverage in major fashion titles and watching opportunities come together that I could only have dreamed about when I first moved to the capital.

I used to think success meant making it in London.

Now, success feels like being able to come back here on my own terms. I can walk through the same streets that once made the world feel so much bigger, knowing I built something of my own. taken in London, United Kingdom by @_ellishasummer

Fashion Week is fun. But the Instagram version is, quite literally, the highlight reel 😂

The outfits, shows, events, street style and cute content are the bits you see.

What you don’t see? The 6am starts, 1am finishes, 47 emails before breakfast, running between shows, fixing problems in taxis and making decisions on the move - all while running on caffeine & vibes.

And then there’s everything that happened long before Fashion Week even started: the relationships, the pitching, the positioning, the years of building trust and making sure my girls are front of mind when those opportunities come up.

So yes, it’s glamorous. Yes, we absolutely love it.

But there’s a LOT of work behind the scenes 👩🏼‍💻 taken in London, United Kingdom by @_ellishasummer
