A little about me.

Thanks for being along for the ride 🩷 by @_em.burton_

The fear is so real and sometimes so overwhelming and I know I’m not the only one who feels it. Especially in my little family, we all live with this constant fear and try to just keep going with our lives.

Talking about suicide tends to make people uncomfortable, but some things need to be said.

This is simply my experience, from my lived perspective.

The meals being delivered are long over, the cards are no longer arriving, the flowers are long since dead and the visits have stopped. You go from feeling so entirely wrapped up in support and love to sitting in the silence, cold, lonely wondering when it was that you last saw someone other than your kids and ironically it’s also the time when the shock has worn off and permanence and pain of the death of your husband, the father of your children has finally hit you.

And you don’t want to, but you resent all those people who got to go back to their normal lives, with their spouse and loved ones who get to feel wrapped up in love and support inside their homes every, single, day.

✨October’s glimmers of happiness for me: ✨
Human birthdays, dog birthdays, sunshine, flowers and finding more colour again.

What were your glimmers in October? by @_em.burton_

It’s a lot for one person. And I never realised before just how intense and exhausting it would be. How could I?

But us widows, us grievers, we just keep going, what other choice do we have. We can move mountains if we have to. It may wreck us, but damn we will do it.

Just because I have been strong and resilient doesn’t mean that I don’t want a soft place to land.

To just breathe and know someone has me.

The death of a loved one forces you to do what you have to in order to keep going, just because you do it doesn’t mean it’s easy or that you want to.

Those of us who get it, really get it.

Trying to cope with grief, loss and trauma while raising kids trying to cope with grief, loss and trauma, and also trying to feel human.

It’s going some kind of way.

PSA to all my fellow grievers.

It’s cool to do both.

I’m feeling the last slide big time right now. ➡️

Grief and trauma that went unprocessed and repressed for the first few years manifested itself in physical ways. Gut issues, migraines, panic attacks, anxiety attacks, insomnia. You name it.

Turns out the body really does keep the score.

Please tell me I’m not alone in this?!

Talking about your person who died isn’t holding onto your grief, but not being able to because it makes others uncomfortable IS keeping you stuck in it

Some of us need to be able to talk about our losses and our people to be able to move through and process it fully. It’s not rehashing it, it’s working through it.

Being forced by others to avoid the topic completely makes us internalise it and it festers and can eat us alive.

Those physical and mental manifestations of what we have to suppress will get to a point that you can’t ignore it any longer.

If you are the type of person who doesn’t process or grieve out loud, that’s totally okay but we aren’t all like that and being made to feel like we aren’t allowed to feel and express it all prolongs our suffering.

I said what I said, no notes.
