Grateful to be part of the generation of women that are unapologetically ambitious and overly educated.

This weekend I will be walking the stage after completing my Masters in Nursing Education. The story does not end there as I will be starting my Doctorate of Nursing Practice in the fall. Grateful for my incredible support system that helps ensure this is all possible.

I’m finally getting around to sharing my NAHN Conference Gala update! At the 51st Annual NAHN Convention, I had the incredible honor of being recognized not once, but twice.

First, I was humbled to receive the **NAHN Emerging Leaders Award**. Similar to a “30 Under 30” recognition, this award honors five emerging nurse leaders from across the nation. Being selected alongside such inspiring individuals is a privilege I will always cherish.

I’m also incredibly grateful to have been awarded the **Abbott Scholarship**. This scholarship is more than financial support—it is an investment in my future and will play a pivotal role as I begin my DNP program this fall.

Only about 1% of doctorate degrees in the United States are held by Latinas. Thanks to the unwavering support of NAHN, my family, mentors, colleagues, and everyone who has believed in me throughout this journey, I have the opportunity to help change that statistic.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, supported, and believed in me. This milestone belongs to all of us, and I can’t wait to see where this next chapter leads. 💙 by @_espyyy.b

Spending the week surrounded by mentors, colleagues, friends, and inspiring Hispanic nurses from across the country who are creating meaningful change has filled me with so much gratitude and motivation. 🩵🩺
Day one began with the Latino Leadership Institute, where I had the opportunity to connect with chapter leaders from across NAHN and continue growing as both a leader and a nurse. Day two was the Parade of Chapters, and Phoenix represented as the largest chapter in the nation! On day three, I had the privilege of moderating two sessions. Public speaking has never been my strongest skill, but over the past year, one of my greatest inspirations, Dra. Hickson, has continually encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and embrace opportunities that help me grow. I’m so grateful for her belief in me. The final day I got with the Policy & Advocacy Committee as we concluded another incredible year of collaboration and advocacy. To top it all off, I was honored to be recognized with two awards at the gala (separate post coming soon!).
I’m excited to bring everything I’ve learned back to my hospital, my local chapter, and continue serving at the national level.

It takes a person with chronic illness 3 times more energy just to stand up. Everything I have done, I did sick and tired and that’s more difficult than doing it healthy. My health struggles played a major role in completing my masters. I see my potential so clearly and I struggle living in a body that cannot always keep up. Somedays I feel like I am letting myself down and have to remind myself that younger me would have never thought she would have these opportunities, experiences and accomplishments. Most days I am sick and tired of being sick and tired but this degree reminded me that only 8% of Latinas hold a masters degree and only 3-8% of chronically ill or disabled people hold a post-baccalaureate degree. I’m not just doing it for myself but for the young Latinas or the scared newly diagnosed students that they can do it too. 💛🎗️#spoonie #endowarrior #chonicillnesswarrior by @_espyyy.b

✨ Celebrated my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary in the happiest place on earth! 💛 Spent unforgettable days with my favorite people in my favorite place, right in the middle of all the magical 70th anniversary festivities. Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., during one of the hottest political climates. From sightseeing to making my mark at the Capitol on Presidents’ Day, it was a trip to remember! But the highlight was attending the NAHN Health Policy Summit, where I met with the offices of our elected officials to discuss and advocate for crucial health policies.
