Hi everyone. Please keep Dr. @jeffbrookey in your thoughts and prayers. Brookey & his family tragically lost their home in the Eaton fire. He is the choral director at La Cañada High School and so much more to the students, including myself, who sang in his choirs. Chamber was the first true community I was part of; it was magic, it was life changing and it feels one of a kind thanks to his generous, loving, supportive and humorous spirit that he infused into it. We sang in European Cathedrals, the Dodger Stadium, our school’s stairwell, and we loved every second. We loved each other and it taught us so much about how rich life could be through music and community. I really could go on and on but right now, he needs our help and so I’d like to share this link to his GoFundMe to help him and his family rebuild their home and their lives after this devastating event. 60 candles 🎂 There are things my mom has reminded me time & time again (as moms do): mostly to eat well, pray lots, love all — literally, eat pray love lol. I admit it’s easy to eyeroll or laugh at these reminders sometimes (as children do); to think, “I know, mom,” or simply, “wow haha.” But the true privilege of being her son in my adulthood has been watching her live and breathe the wisdom of the things she wholeheartedly believes in; to get to understand where she comes from & put together where she’s going with it all. The way this woman practices love — through abundant generosity, empathy, compassion, and laughter — is my greatest inspiration 60 years in the making, and I’m excited to keep looking to her as my greatest role model in this new decade of her life. To say I feel blessed that this person is not only my north star, but also my mother AND my ~greatest cheerleader~ is a huge understatement, and that makes celebrating her with pretty words so incredibly easy.
