Running this show reminded me how much I love Dancehall! A genre that had me hooked in my early teenage years in London.

Had a chat with Aotearoa dancehall icons @dj_jazz_cigarette @rubi_du, @artofwalkingsideways and @high_stakes_records about the genre and the scene here in NZ.

Came to the conclusion - we need to throw more Dancehall parties here in Tāmaki! 👀👀

3rd July at Double Whammy, 15 artists, 1 stage, a showcase of Aotearoa’s musical talent.

Two winners will get flown over to Sydney 🇦🇺 for the finals, going up against artists from across Aus for a slice of the $50,000 prize pool. Yeah… serious business 💰💰

GoldTooth’s Goldmine: A Grow Room Special

Karangahape Road, 2015–2016. Upstairs in St Kevin’s Arcade, tucked above the noise of the city, was one of Tāmaki’s last true third spaces: The Grow Room.

What started as a recording studio, founded by @ryanhendriks.pdf and @e.o_king , quickly became something bigger. A meeting point. A creative refuge. A place where musicians, photographers, videographers could gather, experiment, throw parties, hold exhibitions, and make something out of nothing. Before the city’s wave of gentrification swallowed spaces like it whole.

A decade later, its fingerprints are everywhere. Many who passed through those doors have gone on to shape Aotearoa’s creative landscape in major ways. The stories from inside The Grow Room need to be heard, especially by Auckland newbies like me.

So this Saturday, 7–9pm on @95bfm, I’m sitting down with @og.dusty to dig into that era. The people, the music, the chaos, the legacy.
