If you zoom in you can see the trails of fireflies up in Oak Ridge, TN from around a month ago. I’ve been working on firefly surveys recently and trying to get long exposures capturing their flashes. I need a lot more practice so if anyone has tips on photographing fireflies let me know by @_hiimryan_

At our next Knox Photo Talk, we are are excited to welcome in Ryan Orebaugh (📸 @_hiimryan_ ) - photographer and filmmaker at Oak Ridge National Lab.

Ryan’s background moves between commercial photography, art direction, documentary work, and science communication, which makes him a really interesting person to hear talk about process. At ORNL, that can mean anything from reactors to fieldwork to the people behind the research, often in environments where the conditions, access, and lighting are different every time.

On June 25, he’ll talk through assignments, shooting on the fly, editing, science communication, and how personal work continues to shape the way he photographs professionally.
