The music we listen to in childhood, and especially as teenagers, deeply shapes our tastes as adults. 🎤🎶

It stays with us forever, and, for musicians, its traces are often evident in their own output. That makes it interesting to learn who some of the greats listened to while they were growing up, and, luckily for us, one of those greats, Nas, is happy to enlighten us.

Lil Wayne is launching a new podcast called The Joint Venture Show.

Weezy has teamed up with sports radio veteran Craig Carton to co-host the upcoming podcast, with the first episode releasing on July 22nd.

The show, produced by Magilla Entertainment, will be available on YouTube and other streaming platforms.

It will cover everything from music to sports, welcoming special guests in the latter part of the episodes. Together, they’ll tackle the biggest stories, diving into celebrity feuds and all-time debates.

In a statement, Wayne said, “The best podcasts feel like you just kicking it with your people, talking the same way you do when nobody’s listening. I’ma light one up with the homie Craig, and we gonna talk our shit about whatever the day brings. You never know who’s gonna pull up or where the conversation’s gonna go.”

Carton added, “There’s nothing better than swapping takes with Wayne on sports, pop culture and a whole host of other topics. The Joint Venture Show gives us a great excuse to keep doing what we’ve been doing for years, while also having some famous friends stop by and chop it up with us. There’s no better job in the world.”

Weezy also serves as a producer alongside Carton, Matthew Ostrom, Laura Palumbo Johnson, Jason Fox and Fabian Marasciullo.

This isn’t Wayne’s first time hosting a show, having previously been behind Young Money Radio on Apple Music.

Wayne released his last album, Tha Carter VI, in June 2025, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. He’s currently touring across North America on the 20 Years of Carter Classics Tour and is working on another new project, titled Tha Carter VII.

Nas has, for a long time now, held a very cynical view of the state of hip-hop. His eighth album, released in 2006, was titled Hip Hop Is Dead—and that seems to be his genuine opinion. He thinks hip-hop died long ago, and he traces its demise to the murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. 🎙️🎶

Kendrick Lamar knows he’s good, and he clearly has a claim to being the best MC of his generation, but that doesn’t mean he is without respect for his elders. 🙌🎶

Kendrick’s career is built upon the legacies of plenty of rappers that came before him, and this he understands keenly. There are two older MCs, in fact, that he has admitted he can’t hold a candle to, with one of them especially untouchable.

The entwinement of music and film is nothing new. As film and music buffs alike will know too well, the use of music in film predates actual spoken dialogue in the medium. 🎥🎶

Live orchestras were used in the silent film era over a century ago, and the 1920s film-going audiences had the then-unprecedented experience of listening to synchronised soundtracks to films for the first time.

Fast forward several decades, and popular music became as relevant to films as the script itself, with some of the world’s biggest and greatest musicians lending their voice to a film and its subsequent audiences.

Curtis James Jackson III, better known, of course, as 50 Cent, is the kind of success story that renders one, after a few decades, into a cultural institution. 🔥🎶

A rapper, actor, record executive and television producer, he is considered one of the most successful rappers of all time, having sold over 30million albums across the world. He’s received his fair share of critical acclaim, too: since his 2002 mixtape was discovered by Eminem and he subsequently signed to Shady Records, Cent has racked up a Grammy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, three American Music Awards, and 13 Billboard Music Awards, to name a few.

A new Travis Scott song is set to appear in The Odyssey.

Christopher Nolan will release his new movie on July 17th, which will be his first film since 2023’s Oppenheimer.

Before it hits cinemas next week, ScreenRant have revealed that Scott has contributed new music to the movie.

The track, titled ‘When I’m Home’, is confirmed to play during the end credits. It’s performed by Travis Scott, James Blake, and Ludwig Göransson, with production from Blake and Göransson.

Not only that, but Nolan is also credited as a songwriter, making it the first time in his film career.

Actor John Leguizamo, who stars as Eumaeus in the movie, spoke about the song in a new interview. “Oh, but I like the Travis Scott last one in this movie,” he said. “With Chris being one of the lyricists.”

Scott also has an acting role in The Odyssey, playing the role of the bard in the court of Ithaca. “I just got a call from Nolan,” the rapper recently told Deadline. “We had this crazy idea. And I was like, ‘Yo, I’m down to rock, however you want to do it.’ So, yeah. It’s crazy.”

He also went into detail about how he and Nolan spiritually aligned in the making of the movie. “My last album, Utopia, was based on a travelling experience on mad different plateaus across the world,” he said. “I landed in Circus Maximus and Pompeii.”

He continued, “So I think through that, communicating, working with him, and just building with him as a mentorship, it felt like we kind of felt the same way, just for what music is. And as an artist, how you can deliver the story, so it’s kind of interesting to see it come to life. I’m ready for people to see it.”

Scott previously recorded a single for Nolan’s Tenet movie in 2020, with ‘The Plan’ reaching number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ludacris has announced a free concert in Atlanta to celebrate the World Cup final.

The 48-year-old rapper is set to headline A Celebration of Soccer and Sound in Piedmont Park on July 19th following the conclusion of the tournament.

According to WTOC, fans can expect a celebration of “global culture and hometown pride” at the outdoor festival. In order to attend the event, fans must RSVP.

The festival is set to begin at 11am, and will include food, games, and local business stands, with a big screen showing the final at 3pm local time. As well as Ludacris, a DJ will also be hitting the stage, with the festival coming to a close at 8pm.

There are currently eight teams left in the World Cup. The final will include two of the following teams: France, Morocco, Spain, Belgium, Norway, England, Argentina, and Switzerland.

Despite the Atlanta celebration, the final will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Before the World Cup final day, Luda will also be performing at Centennial Olympic Park’s FIFA Fan Festival Atlanta on July 14th.

Luda is preparing to release his new album, having released recent singles like ‘Pull Over’ and ‘Real Hustla’ with GloRilla.

Speaking in 2023, he told Rolling Stone, “We’re still in the beginning stages, but there’s definitely music coming out in 2024. I’m going to keep it tight-lipped for now. Nowadays you got to do that. Music and rap is all about what you’re going through and what your reality is. And I think as I’ve grown as an individual and evolved as a person, so has the music.”

When DMX released ‘Party Up (Up in Here)’ in 2000, he must have been pleased with the result. It marked his best ever chart performance until that point in time, but, more than that, it also contained a secret dig against his hated rival. He’d managed to turn a diss song against Kurupt into a hit. 💿🎶
