The @sigsauerinc CSAW & LVAW

Pictured in the next slides are @_hotmic & @dylls.kylls clones of them. While not 1/1 clones, a breakdown of the parts used can be found on my pinned posts.

The CSAW (Close Support Assault Weapon) first began appearing publicly around mid-to-late 2021, when it was fielded by Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) elements as a potential successor to the Heckler & Koch HK416, which had seen extensive operational service since its adoption.

The SIG Sauer MCX platform originated from a development effort that began in 2012, in response to a U.S. SOCOM solicitation for a compact and suppressed weapon system.

One of the platform’s defining design features was its ability to utilize an upper receiver assembly that was compatible with a M4-pattern lower receivers, allowing users to utilize existing lower receivers.

To further decrease overall weight, the rifle incorporates several titanium components, including the recoil plate, barrel clamp, cam path insert, stock hinge, and other internal and external parts.

Sig Sauer became involved in another program solicitation known as the Low Visibility Assault Weapon (LVAW).

The LVAW program sought a compact weapon system roughly the size of the MP5SD, intended to be an alternative to that platform in specialized roles.

The MCX LVAW has since been observed in service with several U.S. Special Operations units, including U.S. Army Delta Force (Combat Applications Group, or CAG) and Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC)

Unlike the upper receivers used on the LVAW, SURG, and RSAR variants, the CSAW utilizes a unique upper receiver paired with a non-ambidextrous lower receiver, distinguishing it from other members of the MCX family.
