Authenticity & Finding your own sound in the house music scene are more important than ever nowadays. With social media being the driving force behind the decisions of artists creating what seems to be ‘popular’ and ‘trending’ there is less and less original & unique music being created/discovered due to young artists comparing themselves to what they see going viral online and thinking that’s what success looks like. When in reality the most successful artists always break the mould and have their own individual style and flare, not copy or imitate. Here’s an edit I put together of some out takes of me trying to record the first video I posted of me speaking on camera for my @_inc.tips_ page exactly a year ago to the day. Now there’s a few reasons I’m posting this a year on from the date of the original video & what I have learned from it all. 1. To show myself how far I’ve come in terms of confidence gained whilst taking on camera. It’s something I never thought I would do, but the more I have, the more I have enjoyed the process and got over the fear of it. 2. To stay humble and not take yourself to seriously 😂 it’s not just about posting wins, it’s about learning and growing throughout the process and failure is a huge part of that. Plus, if you can’t laugh at yourself along the way then what’s the point of it all 😂 3. JUST START… the amount of time I have lost through planning an idea and waiting for the perfect circumstances to start it is nobody’s business. So a huge thing for me this year has been to shorten the time from idea to action. Providing these tips videos has helped me to do just that! 4. Stop looking for perfection! Being a producer it’s a really common mindset to get stuck in that the project is never ‘finished’ when in reality there’s no such thing as perfection. Art is subjective and always comes down to matter of opinion. Creating these videos has helped me combat that mindset and the fear of judgement that comes with it… “will they like this!?” When the reality is. You should be creating for yourself first, for the love and passion of the music. There will always be a critic or an opposing opinion. 5. Like learning any new skill, you have to be willing to put in the time and dedication to improve. This was no different for me learning to make content, edit videos and talk confidently on camera. Lots of mistakes, trails & error and experimenting. Painful at first but the more I stuck at it and kept showing up the more I got better and started enjoying it even more! After only a year under the belt of making these videos I’m really excited to see where I can take it going into 2025 and looking forward to sharing more knowledge with you all and hopefully laughs too 😂 by @_inc.tips_

Check out my home studio setup for sampling records where I show you how I rip vinyl into ableton to have as digital WAV files to play in my sets or for sampling elements of the record and using them in my own projects. Sampling is one of my favourite ways to generate new ideas for my productions and also a great reason to keep funding the habit of digging for records 🙌🏼🔊 Let me know what you think guys and I hope you enjoy the video! Limit any & all distractions and set yourself a timer of 1 hour of uninterrupted work. (Using a Digital timer is best as your phone becomes too much of a distraction) All it takes is 1 hour of deep focused work to make you realise that you didn’t have writers block, or the work you was actually putting off wasn’t that bad after all. You were just distracted. Motivation & inspiration comes from doing the work, not thinking about doing the work. Here are my top Social media tips for house music producers: 1. Create a public insta profile 👀 - if you are trying to promote yourself as an artist you want as many eyes on your page as possible and the amount of DJs/Producers I see who have private profiles is insane. So this is a really easy win in order to get more exposure 2. Showcase your personality 😁 - try and be your authentic self as much as possible as people can tell straight away when your not. Also it makes you way more relatable and approachable to your followers 3. Create engaging content 💻 - remember you are a DJ/Producer so showcase your skills on the decks and in the studio and film it to create some excitement about your musical talents, and get creative with it! 4. Collaborate 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 - join forces with other local legends or reach out to other dj/producers you follow and respect who may be in the same position as you and get sharing some tracks, ideas and networking. We all have the same shared goals in some form in this industry so collaborating with others over social media is a great way to potentially spark something great and expand your network 5. Stay consistent & schedule posts 💪🏼 - having a strategy when it comes to social media/content is key to growth. A great way I have found for myself is to bulk record/edit content and then schedule it throughout the week. This way it frees up more time for you to work on your passion which is actually making music. Nothing worth having cones easy and this applies to house music production more than ever! Even though it is the easiest time in history to be discovered as an artist, it still doesn’t take away from the fact you have to put in the time on your craft to master it! You may go viral for a reel but if you haven’t got the skills to back it up in the studio then what’s it all for? If you love this game and the music be prepared to dedicate your time to constantly learning and growing as an artist building off strong foundations that are built to last! We’ve all felt these feelings at some point in our musical journeys in the studio! And whilst at the time it may not seem like it, we are the only ones who put these limiting beliefs on ourselves! So if you want to become the complete artist you know you’re capable of being, then you will have to master the mind as well as the beats! 🧠 🔊 As what we feel in our inner world becomes our reality and this is no different to the music we create. Once we start acting like we deserve to achieve our musical goals and our thoughts align with our daily actions. Then we will already be living like that person. A warm-up set is crucial for setting the mood of the night and building the right energy for the main act. Here are my top five tips for a house music DJ warm-up set… Scroll to the end slide for my non negotiable tip!! 1. Start Slow and Build Gradually -Begin with lower BPM tracks (around 120 BPM), easing the crowd into the night. Avoid high-energy anthems right away. The goal is to gradually increase the tempo and energy as the set progresses. 2. Focus on Groove, Not Bangers - Play deep, groovy, and soulful tracks to set a vibe. Subtle, hypnotic beats and smooth transitions will help create an atmosphere without overwhelming the crowd. Keep the bangers for later, your job is to create anticipation. 3. Read the Room - Adjust your set according to the crowd’s energy. Early arrivals may just be mingling, so don’t push the tempo too early. As the crowd fills in and people start dancing, slowly pick up the pace and intensity. 4. Keep It Seamless - Smooth, extended transitions are key. Create a continuous flow, keeping the energy consistent without sudden changes. This helps maintain a steady build-up that primes the dancefloor for the headliner. 5. Create Space for the Headliner -This is the most important of all in my opinion, and a great way to earn the respect of your idols and peers in the scene. It is hands down the best way to get noticed and create bigger opportunities for yourself to play higher profile gigs as the headliner will definitely be paying attention to what your playing. If you do the business and create a platform for them to take it to the next level when they jump on the decks you will have done a good job and be remembered for it. So don’t steal the spotlight by playing tracks the headliner might use or anything too intense. Instead, build tension with layered sounds and allow the crowd to feel like they’re still waiting for something bigger. Following these tips will help you set the right tone and build anticipation for the rest of the night.
