Why brilliant women still doubt themselves at work and what to do about it

You have the degree. The track record. The results.

And yet, before that big meeting, the promotion conversation, or the decision to take a leap, that voice shows up. Am I really good enough for this? What if they find out I'm not as capable as they think? What if I fail?

You're not alone. In my work as a career coach, this is the pattern I see most consistently among the women I work with: highly educated, deeply experienced, genuinely accomplished, and quietly held back by self-doubt.

Imposter syndrome isn't a personal flaw. It's largely a product of how most of us were raised and socialized. From an early age, women are often rewarded for being careful, modest, and accommodating — not for being bold, vocal, or ambitious. That conditioning doesn't disappear when you enter the workforce. It follows you into the boardroom, into salary negotiations, and into the moments where your next career move is on the table.

The result? Talented women who hesitate to go for the promotion they've already earned. Women who return from a career break and feel they need to "prove themselves" from scratch. Women who know exactly what they want, but talk themselves out of it before anyone else gets the chance to say no.

This is exactly why I founded FEMtastic. After 13 years in HR, I've seen this pattern play out again and again, from both sides of the table. Now, through coaching, I create what one of my clients described as "a space where you feel understood, seen and safe" and where the right questions open up new perspectives you didn't know you needed.

That's the work. Not just career strategy, but the inner clarity that makes that strategy stick. Building confidence that is grounded, not performative. Reframing what a successful, balanced, and meaningful career actually looks like, on your own terms.

If you're at a crossroads - re-entering the workforce, stepping into leadership, or simply ready to stop playing small, I'd love to connect. Start with a free Discovery Call at femtastic.ch.

Sometimes growth is quiet.
Sometimes clarity happens offline.
Sometimes we need to refocus and recharge before taking the next step.
And sometimes that means going quiet to come back stronger.

If you’re in a phase of questioning, recalibrating, or boldly redesigning your next chapter - I’m cheering you on, wherever you are in your journey.

If you’re reading this, I hope you’re being kind to yourself. 🤍

40, fabulous and still dancing the night away 💃 — that’s me, Alessandra! HR expert & career coach with a passion for empowering women to shine in their personal and professional lives.✨

When I’m not supporting others to find their path, you’ll catch me planning my next trip ✈️, cooking up a storm (and hosting dinners like Monica from Friends), binge-listening to true crime podcasts, losing myself in a gripping book 📚, or rewatching Friends for the 100th time (yes, I can quote whole episodes 🙈).

I’m a loyal friend, loving wife, caring stepmother & proud aunt 💕. I believe laughter, curiosity and real connection make all the difference in life. With FEMtastic, I’ve turned my passion for personal development, connection and female empowerment into a mission — supporting women to discover their strengths, navigate challenges, and write their own success stories.🌸
