DEEP is right around the corner & last up, if you don’t know, you’re about to. Get a glimpse into @_jaysound musical palette of how he likes to get down. And lastly, but far from least. Their resume runs deep so we’ll just focus on the music for now. Jay Sound is a musical heavy weight recluse you probably only hear of by depth of knowledge, chance or word of mouth. A vet in the game with well over 10yrs of experience with a musical pedigree that is highly revered globally with both non dancers & pro street dancers alike. One of Motowns hidden gems in the underground music scene, now back home after building his music career on the west coast for years. A westside Detroit native artivist with a radical Decolonial lens who specializes within the art of Deejaying & Musicianship/Composing, who’s had many of his original releases played & co-signed by the likes of Kyle Hall, Waajeed, K15, Steven Julien, Jaxx TMS, Space Ghost, Giles Smith & many more overseas & state side. Deeply passionate & convicted within consistency, intention, depth & the prioritization of Black Culture globally. Sound can take you from the deepest corners of various sub-genres of House, to 80s Boogie & Funk, Disco, beyond & back again without taking you out of the journey. Known for making you sweat constantly & expressing frustration at his consistent quality selections. Being 16yrs deep in the underground House Dance scene as a pro street dancer with over 20yrs of experience under the alias “SOUL” has gravely impacted his style of playing, giving him a very distinct style through sound. Having spun internationally from Asia to Canada to Denmark & multiple states domestically, Jay has made major waves & blessed various radio shows from Balamii, NTS, Dublab & even Apron with not only their selecting prowess but also their originals. Being the son of his late deceased father Jabulani Zuberi who has toured as a drummer with George Clinton before Jays birth, it’s no shock that the musical legacy & protection of Black music runs deep. Specializing heavily within the realm of House, Disco, Funk & Broken Beat, their smooth blends & carefully curated selections for each situation & venue is what makes them an instant fav for anyone who hasn’t experienced him spin. DEEP is Back for its 1 Year Anniversary, only in Detroit. We welcome an amazing line up of DJs to guide you through the night. First up Saylem Celeste (Blue Moon Radio) (They/Them) is an electronic musician and disc jockey in Detroit, MI. When performing, they position themselves as a ‘Sonic Reverend,’ offering an experiential listening environment that provides an intentional space for Black music, cultural reflection, and fun. Secondly ameera (She/They) is a vinyl dj based in Detroit. She is shaped by sound— rooted in the Black musical traditions + the history of Detroits musical lineage; ameera spins an eclectic blend of genres guided by soul, rhythm, and self-reflection to create a new mix of nostalgic sounds. Sets unfold with intention, prioritizing warmth, pacing, and connection over spectacle. They operate in a space where feeling leads selection and sharing frequencies becomes a tool for care. Lastly Your resident/founder Jay Sound (Deep Quality Records) (He/Him/They)
A Detroit native & having been a selector of music well over 10yrs spinning internationally from Asia to Canada to Denmark, Jay continues to reflect maturity & introspection whenever he spins. Jay has made major waves & blessed multiple radio stations from the likes of Balamii, NTS, Dublab to Apron. Known for his storytelling, versatility & deep dance floor cuts approach musically. He continues to strive for excellence & consistency as he plays every set as if it was his last. Specializing within the realm of House, Disco, Funk & Broken Beat, his smooth blends & carefully curated selections for each situation & venue is what makes him an instant fav for anyone who hasn’t experienced him spin.
