Wholesale Heaven

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the wholesale space… I used to buy for a boutique when I lived back in Tahoe…. And would go to market in Vegas.

Instead of dresses… I’m now looking for florals, cabin decor, and potential merch.

Take the reins.

It’s time.

It’s also terrifying when you understand that you are not only more powerful than you appear, but that you are the one who decides to take control of that power, or not.

To quote Spiderman, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Who do you want holding the reins of that power? You, or the DingDong on social media trying to rage bait you, or your dippy coworker who thinks TikTok is a credible news source?

If you like conversations that open your aperture, you can find more of them in our bi-monthly letters, right to your ACTUAL mailbox, right out there in the real world.

We’ll see you in the mail.

Love,

Nicki

Something I don’t talk about that often is my career life. I’ve talked about work I’m doing but not contracts I’m trying to close to roles I’m trying to fill… and an interesting shift happens today while I was interviewing for a role. A posture I realized has been happening within me.

Today is Day One.

Not the day this place began.

There have been weddings here. Families here. Music, dinners, photographs, vows and a whole lot of stories that belong to the people who came before us.

But today is the first official day of Anthology at Selma.
There are things we want to change. Things we want to restore. Things we want to make more beautiful.
And there are things we hope never change at all.
The trees. The quiet. The feeling that you’ve found something tucked away from everything else.

So today, we’re just opening the gate.

Welcome to Anthology at Selma.

Let’s see what happens here.

Six months away from the most abusive relationship of my life, I found myself opposite one of my favorite people, sitting in a gorgeous little cafe in Manhattan, working together over cappuccino.

Some of us are certain we do our best work alone.

Others say they’re better in collaboration with a team.

I’d like for you to ask yourself WHY you just identified with one of the statements you just read, because you did it without even realizing it.

We live in a culture that expects you to label EVERYTHING, including yourself.

“These labels are what constitutes the inside of this person.” As if you’re produce or a frozen dinner. (don’t eat those)

We allow ourselves to continually be defined by things we do, what we have built, where we are in life, the comparisons to others, what we don’t have, what we lack, on and on and on.

I did it at the beginning of this post, and it slipped right under your radar.

We’ve become buried under 187,000 stickers proclaiming to the world and ourselves “I’m this.”

You sure about that?

Or is that label just marking you safe from having an opinion someone might not like?

Do you believe that label you slapped onto yourself?

And which part of you picked it? Conscious you, or the wounded kid still trying to feel safe or seen or chosen?

I’ve slowly stopped calling myself by what I used to do, or how I used to be. I’m not entirely sure how to introduce myself anymore, beyond “Nicki; I do stuff to things.”

Who are you beneath all those labels? by @_jenee.michelle_

Every generation has its “I walked uphill both ways to school” mantra.

The point isn’t to show how much harder it was for a given generation.

The point is to LIVE in the circumstances of the period of time you’re in, make it better for others and yourself where you can, and where you can’t, find a speaker and dance your ass off. by @_jenee.michelle_

Some of us are exhausted of this nonsense.

Our perspectives are different because we’re different.

There’s beauty in that.

The moment you decide I’m supposed to think, act, and believe what you believe is the moment you wall off yourself from learning and understanding.

We can show you how to take down those walls, unless of course you want to keep them up, and in that case, enjoy your echo chamber, Denise.

You can see the target right in front of you. It’s probably impossible to miss it.

You’ve read up on your next steps for healing, for weight loss, for financial security, for making the sourdough started.

I bet you have 37 categories of videos and posts saved that you’ve never once gone back to, but saving them temporarily filled the space where actual accomplishment of your goal would live.

How have we become a culture that worships the endless discussion of our problems, while simultaneously applauding every one of the excuse-stories holding us back from solving what’s lurking beneath them?

This was me, and finally got so sick of my own shit I had no choice but to look at the cause of it. (Spoiler: it was uglier than I was prepared to admit)

Therapists tell us it’s because moving toward something new means moving away from safety.

I don’t buy it. That’s a candy-coated Band-aid definition.

I think “safety” is better defined as “the bullshit narratives we’ve become comfortable sitting in.” It’s warm and cozy there, and we’ve been in it so long we’ve gotten used to the smell.

Moving toward a new target means looking at the crap covering my life and having the courage to be the one to wash it off, put on clean clothes, and admit to myself I’ve been wallowing in a dung heap.

It means having the strength to witness a level of humiliation from inaction from within.

We hide behind phrases like “I’m still on my journey” or “I don’t like so much visibility .”

I think in most instances that’s a crock.

It’s an excuse for not admitting things to ourselves, so we hide behind “visibility is hard.”

You bet it’s hard, especially when you’re purposely hiding pieces of you FROM YOURSELF, let alone being forced to witness those short-comings through the eyes of others. You’re hiding the self-humiliation from the crowd who believe will see what you refuse to look at.

So you pick a target and stare at THAT instead of staring at yourself.

Solving this is deeper than focusing on your target goal.

It’s understanding which part of you is keeping you stuck instead of moving you forward. It’s accep by @_jenee.michelle_
